“Have your musket clean as a whistle, hatchet scoured, sixty rounds powder and ball, and be ready to march at a minute's warning.” - MAJ Robert Roger’s Standing Orders Post Range operations! Spending a day at the range doing a machine gun shoot means I have a lot of very dirty guns to clean. Despite a lot of offers to help, cleaning my firearms is something I take very seriously and find myself unable to abdicate that responsibility to anyone else. While I wouldn’t necessarily consider it “fun”... I do consider it to be meditative... and the time spent cleaning allows me to reflect on my day of training and evaluate what went well and what needs improvement. Cleaning the weapon also allows me to conduct services on it and make sure everything is operating the way I want it to while checking the optics and accessories and making sure everything is affixed properly and ready to go the next time I need it. The Army taught me to never end my day without first maintaining my weapon and to this day when I allocate time for training, I also allocate time for maintenance and cleaning. If my weapon ever fails me, I will have no one but myself to blame. . Via @legacyarmsintl
