Day 4 in Pendarren held our biggest challenge yet: Canoeing through the massive Pontsticill Reservoir. We had to use all our teamwork skills to paddle in sync and make turns against the wind, and became true professionals in the end. We were rewarded with amazing weather, and a great bushcraft session where we built our own shelter and cooked caramel apples on a fire we lit.

In the next part of our sensory story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, we’ve been exploring thick, oozy mud 🐻🤎
The children made their own mud paint using natural materials 🌿 and had fun mixing different colours 🎨 They worked together to create a big muddy handprint artwork 🖐️

This week in year 5 we have been learning what it would be like to cook as a Viking. Using only ingredients available in Viking times we made delicious flapjacks for everyone to enjoy at lunch.

Day 3 in Pendarren has treated us very nicely with warm weather and sunshine ☀️. We explored some rock pools, met some shelly friends and even took a dip in the sea!

Yesterday in Pendarren, Year 6 got acquainted and quickly bonded with some majestic horses. Even though goodbyes with their new friends proved difficult, the memories they made will last a lifetime.

🧸As part of our sensory story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, the children explored the deep, cold river. They investigated water through an Understanding the World water tray.
The children also took part in creative activities to represent the river. They experimented with drop painting using pipettes, blow painting using straws, and rollers to create a large collaborative class river. These experiences supported the children’s creativity, fine motor development, and understanding of the story.🧸

Our class has been exploring a brand new “Going on a Bear Hunt” sensory story and the children absolutely loved it! 📚✨
We used our sensory story box, floor mats, and a textured sensory display board to bring the story to life.

We have arrived at Pendarren and are already in full swing! Our brave year 6 team is taking a trip ~100m below ground to explore the coal mines that were crucial during the Industrial Revolution. ⛏️🪨

This week the children enjoyed making their special Mother’s Day cards and wrapping their gifts, and they were so proud of the lovely surprises they created. 💝
