• Donuts...is there anything they can’t do?

🍩🍩🍩

I’ve been a bit quiet here on the ol’ gram these last few weeks. Between WA quarantine and heading back to work, I haven’t had too many chances to explore, and I just kind of feel like I don’t really know what to say anymore? It’s been fun to go through old photos and re-edit them, but then it comes to the caption and I’m just like “UMPHF!” I have like one hundred photos I could post, but exactly zero words written to go along with them.

Life’s been weird this year, I’ve gone from thinking this was the year I was gonna absolutely SLAY, to feeling like I might have hit my lowest low, to finding some version of myself that can be both vulnerable AND strong, and trying to navigate all these tricky feelings in a world that’s both literally and figuratively on fire...well, it’s been a lot. For anyone else who’s feeling the same, I see you. I feel you. I’m here for you.

I didn’t actually set out to write this in a caption. It just sort of came out, but it feels right and it’s honest, so here we are. Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend ♥️

  • And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it ✨

Have you sought out something magical today? ✨

  • I’m not a morning person, but when @the_secret_o_life takes you to Noosa and tells you that you’re going to shoot sunrise photos on the beach, you ignore the fact that it’s still dark out, you drag your butt out of bed, and you just do it.

Fun fact - I met Lucy through Instagram and this trip to Noosa happened during our first ever in-person meeting. I travelled across the country to meet a stranger, who insisted that I stay in her home and that we go on a trip together. She’s one of the kindest humans I have ever met, and I will forever be jealous of her ability to be friends with absolutely anyone and everyone. (I, on the other hand, struggle to make small talk with people I’ve known for years 🙈)

Fun fact #2 - 3 months ago I could barely even open Photoshop on my computer, but then @amyseder and @bburkley taught me stuff and now I can fix my poor posture, make my hair thicker, clean up the mess, and smooth everything out real pretty. This is a huge win for me - I’ve wanted to learn PS for a while now but it’s always seemed too hard and complicated. Their Master of Photoshop course was easy to follow and understand, and after 98 lessons (and over 40 hrs of video walkthroughs), I totally feel confident that I can do this! Swipe through the carousel to see the before photo, after Lightroom edits, and then after Photoshop edits. I learned a new skill this year, feeling v proud of myself.

  • ✨ I am lost in wild places,
scattered out
and shining,
bits of me still aglow
in all the places
I have wandered. ✨

Thankful for all of the creative people out there who can articulate my thoughts so much better than I ever could!

Do you have any go-tos when looking for some inspiration, quotes, or poetry?

  • Officially declaring September as “be kind to yourself and others month.”

We’ve all collectively had one hell of a 2020 so far, and for better or worse, we’re still here in September wondering how we ever got to this point, and where things could possibly go from here.

It’s ok to be feeling less than ok about the current situation. We are, after all, living through a global disaster where the only guarantee is that there are no guarantees, and where many of our old ways of life have been altered or taken away. (Take a vacation to get away from it all? Forget about it! A night out with friends? Doesn’t look quite the same as it used to)

We all deserve a little bit of extra kindness, compassion, and grace right now. Start with yourself - YOU are so important and so worthy of self-kindness. Then, expand that to the people closest to you, to your community, and to the strangers that you meet (in person or online). Let’s spend September being kind to ourselves first, and then spreading that kindness everywhere.✨

  • Yes, this is a natural hot spring in the middle of the Thai jungle. The hot. Steamy. Thai jungle.

Yes, it did seem like a good idea at the time.

No, it was not at all relaxing.

And yes, the water was so hot this is as far as I was able to get in without feeling like a boiled potato.

Do you have a favourite hot spring location that you’ve come across during your travels? Or maybe one that just didn’t live up the hype? For me, my faves are in the Canadian Rockies - natural, outdoor rock pools that you won’t find in any guidebook, but are totally worth exploring for.

Shot in Thailand 700 years ago. aka 2018.

  • It’s official. Our travel application to enter WA has been approved.

For those of you not familiar with the situation in Australia, most of the states here have closed their borders to domestic travellers, and WA has by far the most strict border restrictions of all. When borders first closed back in March, I had 18 hours notice to throw some clothes in a suitcase and get myself to WA for work. I stayed for a few months, but eventually came back home to Adelaide for a bit of a break in July. As a FIFO worker, I’m supposed to be considered an essential worker, and should have been able to travel back to WA, but the government denied my first travel application, and after waiting weeks for the second application I almost thought I’d never get back!

But. It’s happened. And the moment is a little bittersweet. Rumour has it that FIFO workers are going to be taken off of the essential worker list, which means that if I ever want to come home, I won’t be able to get back to WA again afterwards.

For now though, we’re going to embrace the chance to explore some of WA that’s currently off-limits to the rest of the country’s residents, and hope that 2021 brings some positive change to this whole crazy situation.

  • Postcards from a floating hotel in Thailand.

The cold weather really seems to have set in here, so I might just hit those tropical vibes hard for the next couple of weeks. #sorrynotsorry

Random poll of the day: citrus margaritas or fruity daiquiris??? 🍹🍹

  • Forever grateful for wine. And all of the cellar doors open to visitors in SA. 🍷🍷🍷

McLaren Vale is less than 30 minutes from my house, and a fun little drive we like to take on the weekend. The area is actually the first of South Australia’s many wine-growing regions to be established, with vines planted here a few years before planting began in the Barossa Valley. These days there are a lot of award-winning wines produced here, from an eclectic group of winemakers, and some really fun and interesting cellar doors to visit.

Here, my Top 5 unique cellar doors to visit in McLaren Vale:

- d’Arenburg (pictured here), the cellar door is on the top floor of the “Cube,” which also houses a Salvador Dalí museum.

- Alpha Box & Dice, quite possibly the comfiest cellar door ever, with oversized furniture to sink into and old photos on the walls.

- Down the Rabbit Hole, tastings happen on a refurbished double deck bus, styled like an Instagrammer’s dream.

- Three Dark Horses, a relative newcomer to the scene with 90-year old Grandpa Frank overseeing the hand-made production of small batch wines.

- Mollydooker Wines, fun, whimsical, and eclectic. What else is there to say?

  • Let’s get lost ✨

Our adventures have been a lot closer to home lately, but that doesn’t mean we can’t feel like we’re still exploring unfamiliar territory. It’s all about finding new perspectives and slowing down to enjoy the little things (like the pattern waves make on the beach or stopping for a moment to close our eyes and let our other senses take in the way a place “feels”)

What have you been doing to experience home adventures? ✨
