• Apparently in 2021 some folks need a reminder...

LOVE IS LOVE 🌈

One of my FB ads recently received hate because it featured a same sex couple. Now normally I would engage in a conversation with someone who disagrees with me, but I draw the line at bigotry. So for future reference. My business is a safe space for LGBTQ+ people and I have no tolerance for homophobia.

  • Alex and Jeff scaled down their 200 person wedding in Phoenix to an 20 person elopement in Sedona and did it like rockstars. Watching their resilience along the way really impressed and inspired me. I’m so happy they got married the way they wanted to and I can’t wait for part II in 2021!

  • In a lot of 1 on 1 conversations I’ve had with people about racial inequality and white privilege, a common concern I’ve encountered is white people being afraid of their privilege. To some, it’s a burden that’s constantly thrown in their face during an argument. To others, just the mention of it fills them with anxiety with the rise of the cancel culture phenomenon affecting careers, reputations, and relationships. Others still deny its very existence, calling the idea reductive and arguing that it invalidates their accomplishments. Rather than learn how to use their privilege, they ignore it. The reality is, the voices that come from these places of privilege are needed to end this fight.

So to everyone who thinks they’re burdened by their privilege, don’t hide behind it like a mask, wield it like a katana.

Speak out against injustice, not just on social media but also in real life. Educate yourself on microaggressions, and work to unlearn those thought patterns and behaviors. When you see people in your daily life act on prejudiced beliefs, invite them to explore those prejudices so they might destroy them. If a POC is being harassed, be it by a citizen or a member of law enforcement, make it known that you are watching and recording, because believe it or not, your voice makes a difference.

Social media gives each and every one of us a platform. I implore you to utilize it to speak out against injustice, uplift POC artists and business owners, and have hard conversations with those in your community. Treat books and movies on the subject like a whetstone to sharpen your katana. Because at the end of the day, your privilege will follow you everywhere; what you choose to do with it is what makes a difference.

  • Today my brother bought his first camera and while we were in the camera store looking at the options I could feel his fear. For days we were talking about dreams and goals and how achieve those goals takes work, a whole lot of it. We wrote his goals out of where he wanted to be and how photography could help take him there, but here we were, at the counter, camera in front of him and he was backpedaling.

While talking to him I began reflecting on the times where I felt that same feeling, questioning if this was a “good idea”, worrying that I would fail, allowing my indecision to stop me taking any action at all. And rather that letting those feeling consume me I flipped the script, speaking my goals into existence. Writing out my goals on my white board and surprising myself when I crossed them off sooner than expected.

So while talking with my brother, I flipped the script from validating his fears to focusing on his dreams. Reminding him that buying a camera was the first step to achieving his dream. And it worked! He bought the camera!

So to anyone stewing in your fears. Flip the script on yourselves. Speak life into your ideas create a moodboard, type out your goals, bring it up in everyday conversation. Breathe life into your dreams!

  • Though today marks the last day of pride month, it’s not the last day to showcase pride. And you can bet your wig that I’m going to share more LGBT content! To every LGBT couple who has booked me as their wedding photographer I’m honored, and I’m buzzing with excitement to photograph your wedding (as soon as this COVID shit it over 😑)
Albina and Kyira’s surprise proposal was the highlight of my day and I’m so excited to share that their proposal has been featured on @howtheyasked! I am stoked to be a part of their 2021 wedding! Happy Pride Everyone! 🌈

I love traveling to the PNW, especially when I’m feeling overwhelmed with life! The last few months have been the busiest for me but I’ve loved every second of it. Coming out here I got some perspective, got my creative juices flowing, challenged myself, and I feel I’ve got recharged to finish this year out strong and get 2020 going!!!
