Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday - no matter what or how you celebrated this week! We had a blast watching Howie unwrap his Christmas presents. Last year was technically his first Christmas, but he was only about 10 days old. This year we got to enjoy him experiencing Christmas instead of sleeping through it while I recovered from a C-Section. Anyway - that leads me to today's blog post, which features Diana and Levi's wedding from August. These two are incredibly special and I just loved taking these sunset portraits with them. We didn't have any magical epic views, but we did kick up some dirt and make some epic portraits! #carrieswailsphotography

Oh look hey it’s me! Merry Christmas! Always extra thankful for perfect photos of Howie and I when he’s smiling at me. We woke up to 5 or 6 inches of snow today when they only predicted 1! So it feels like a perfect little Christmas to get Howie outside and let him play in the snow for the first time. He was apprehensive, but then it grew on him. Hope everyone is enjoying their time with friends and family! #carrieswailsphotography

I’m not a Winter person. If it’s going to be cold and dark it needs to just snow constantly - otherwise I’m wishing for this kind of warm sunlight filtering through the trees! The one thing I do love about Winter is Christmas and this year, although it’s not Howie’s first, it feels like it! I can’t wait for him to enjoy all the family and rip open presents. Plus we are looking forward to starting a few family traditions of our own. In my family we follow some old Danish traditions - Santa comes on a different night (the 23rd) and we only open presents in the evening on the 24th. This year we will do Christmas on the 25th like everyone else, but are wondering what kind of fun family things people do on Christmas Eve? I need ideas! #carrieswailsphotography

Scroll to see how much Howie liked cake last week when he tried it for his first birthday. Also, Pinterest perfection did not exist at his first birthday. No fancy favors, no cutesy themes....it was the opposite of social media perfection. We started the morning hanging out in our jammies while he decided that his birthday was the best day to begin walking. We played all morning, took crappy naps, opened presents, and I baked him this homemade cake. So, it was perfectly imperfect. And you know what? I don't feel like a bad parent because his birthday wasn't Pinterest-worthy. It was memory-worthy and it was good! Although, I do feel slight guilt that Amazon still hasn't delivered his presents from me yet because their delivery is a shit-show lately. Not much I can do about that, right? #carrieswailsphotography

A progression of my last year. From bringing a newborn home, recovering from pre-partum depression, Howie getting RSV, his first plane ride, his first belly laugh, learning how to be a productive human again, trying to balance him, family, teaching...a business...well it’s still been fantastic! Happy birthday to the best guy I know who started walking yesterday on his birthday! Looking back at these photos makes me miss his Jack-Jack (Incredibles) phase. Also here is a roundup of emojis I’ve used in my first year as a parent: 😂❤️😬🤷🏼♀️😭🙄😍🤦🏼♀️👀👊🏻🍷😐😅🤪😩😷😴👶🏻🙈🐓🔥💨🍼🍾💵

Sundays are for playing with sticky notes and thinking about how on Friday I’ll have a one year old. #carrieswailsphotography
