I don’t know who was more excited to see Laura - me or Juno! After a loooong hiatus, she’s back on the treadmill and loving every minute. We also realized that Juno, on her way to 13 years old, is officially Twinbrook’s longest running PT patient! They have rehabbed her through two torn ACL’s, a herniated disc and IVDD. Regular treadmill sessions and laser therapy have no doubt kept her in tip top shape. This the look of pure joy—and a girl who can't wait to get back to work! The moment we pulled into the parking lot she got SO excited. Her face lit up and she immediately knew where she was. We couldn't take her inside, but she proudly walked around the entrance like she owned the place, and greeted a few employees and visitors as they walked by. Until this moment, I didn't quite realize how much a year of isolation has affected Juno, too.⠀ .⠀ For the majority of the last seven years, she's had a weekly gig—either at the airport or the hospital. She's a social butterfly and thrives on a routine...and then everything abruptly stopped in March. I tried to make the best of it with parking lot meet-ups and walks with friends, but it's just not the same as putting on her vest and going to work. Therapy dogs have been trained to be with and help people. And not being allowed to do what they do best at a time when people need them most has been difficult for both of us. Merry Christmas Eve!🎄We usually spend today at Passavant Hospital, visiting with patients and families and of course our favorite—the nurses. I will so miss getting our annual picture by the 4PAV tree and jingle-belling our way through the halls. Since we can't be there this year, we decided to spread some Christmas cheer from a distance. Yesterday we delivered stockings stuffed with goodies to each of the nurses stations on our shift (and by deliver I mean drop them off at the front desk 😉). Today we’re throwing it back to this summer, when the volunteer coordinator at Passavant drove all around Pittsburgh hand delivering goody bags filled with homemade cookies to all the volunteers. Therapy dog house calls! 🐶 We recently surprised our favorite nurse (practitioner) Nicole with a socially-distant visit in her driveway. Juno got to meet her pups Dino & Trixie...and of course she left with a new toy. (Can you say spoiled?) This time it was a stuffed reindeer, which she's been cuddling ever since. ❤️⠀ .⠀ .⠀ Nicole is on the front lines caring for patients at Passavant Hospital. Hearing the stories of what it's like right now at the peak of this pandemic is just heartbreaking.
