  • Riding the Heat Wave. Who else is going poolside? 🙋🏻‍♀️⠀ ⠀ I love me a good dip in the pool.. my skin on the other hand.. not so much. BUT, that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy the pool.. I just need to do a couple more things before I jump in with a Truly in hand.⠀ ⠀ Chlorine, is a natural irritant. But we need chlorine to make sure we are not swimming in algae and other pathogens that grow in water. Chlorine can a have a dramatic effect on the skin, like - breakouts(pimples), dry skin, rash, burns, and it can exacerbate other skin conditions (eczema, rosaces, psoriasis, dermatitis)⠀ ⠀ So how do we protect ourselves from an irritant and wreaking havoc on our skin and still enjoy the pool? Here are some pool-side skin tips to practice 😊⠀ ⠀ 1) SPF 🧴 ⠀ Applying sunblock and WAITING a minimum of 20minutes before jumping into the pool will actually give you a LAYER of protection, not only from the sun but chlorine itself. And don’t forget to REAPPLY!⠀ ⠀ 2) GET WET 💦⠀ Don’t jump into the pool after you apply your SPF just yet .. instead... GET WET with clean water first (use a hose). You think I’ve gone crazy - getting wet before you get wet from the pool. Yeah, it sounds crazy BUT.. your skin can only ABSORB so much! Think of your skin like paper (I always use this analogy) - once the paper have absorb to its level of capacity, the rest of the water just hangs around it. Which means, when your skin have absorb the amount of water it can possibly absorb, it won’t absorb as much chlorine water 🤓⠀ ⠀ 3) OIL’s TO PROTECT 🛡 ⠀ We know oil and water repel each other. Using that tid-bit of info we can protect our skin from absorbing chlorine water! Apply a light-fast absorbing oil like jojoba, avocado, or argon oil on you skin first before getting into the pool (Yes, you still have to apply SPF). The natural oil will help repel the chlorine water from your skin so that it does not absorb chlorine as much. I really love this method, because not only am I protecting my skin from the chlorine - but - I be looking like Halle Berry from that one James Bond movie with my sun kissed-dewy looking skin 😎⠀ ⠀ (To be continued...)
