All the warmest wishes to the beautiful cast of @cvilleballet’s Snow White for their final performance tonight @attheacademy — what a beautiful production, and it remains a delight and privilege to capture their production stills and receptions for their Lynchburg residency. I had the pleasure of photographing last night’s final dress, which was extra special with my own little one on stage as a beautiful butterfly! And just look at the gorgeous Nanae Matsushima, performing here as Snow White: what incredible, international talent in these ballet productions we have right here in the heart of Virginia.
Jamie & Ed's wedding was full of happy tears, beautiful blessings, an oyster toast, and a small but mighty dance floor. Congratulations, lovebirds! It was such a joy celebrating with you tonight. I have three more openings for 2020 weddings, and then I am fully booked for the year. Somehow I still have this year’s hottest date, 10/10/2020 open, but expecting it to go any day now. If you or someone you know is excited to spend the night dancing away with loved ones who flew in from all over the world to celebrate with you, and who values documentary photography, I would love to chat!!! And while I didn’t have a palindrome wedding (02/02/2020), I'm excited for my next sweet couple’s big day on 02/22/2020. 💕 Also booking April, September (second half only) and October 2021 dates; all other wedding season months are booked or otherwise unavailable next year. Inquiry link in comments! And will always share this glorious photo. from my morning after hike with newlyweds Nora & Richard at Stony Man in Shenandoah. Nora wanted sunrise photos but also wanted to keep her dress a surprise, so this was the delightful solution! One of her absolute favorite moments of her wedding day was being in the same room with all of her loved ones. Both career foreign service members, Nora & Richard’s friends and family came from around the globe — we took family photos but also a “work family” photo with the contingency from one of Nora’s stints in South Africa. And it’s worth adding that I'm firmly committed to being an inclusive and LGBTQ-affirming vendor. While this post could certainly have continued without this edit, I believe it's important to add, especially given that same sex couples I have worked with have been turned away by vendors in Central Virginia. Love is love is love is love!
One of my favorite things about working with @virginia_business magazine is learning a little more about the businesses and entrepreneurs I photograph. Dave Henderson, owner of @the_water_dog in downtown Lynchburg, is a career switch success story, and it’s paid off: The Water Dog won a 2019 @vrlta Ordinary Award, the first time a restaurant in our city won this prestigious tourism industry award. If you’ve been to The Water Dog, their fresh oysters and unique craft brews are top notch and it’s no wonder they took home this award.
It’s been so quiet on my feed lately! I am happy to say that I’ve had quite a few magazine and book projects in the works over the last year; but, with the long lead time before publication, I often forget to come back and post images once they’ve been printed (I can’t share before then!). So, over the next couple of weeks I’ll start rolling out more of these stories. Here’s something different for today: for a long time I’ve wanted a place to put my fine art and street/daily life moments I come across. I was so bummed not to have my gear with me when I saw this moment!!! These two young women from North Carolina were eating breakfast at the @kirkleyhotel in Lynchburg, Virginia, before heading to their cheer competition at @libertyuniversity today. Everything about this moment was too perfect to pass up, and I do appreciate that they allowed me to grab a photo (even just with my phone!) while they ate. The light hit their sparkling bows, the pop of color in their uniforms, and the symmetry and almost twin-like mirror of their seating arrangement made for a photo that was too good to pass up. I wish you and your team all the luck today, EK & K!!
Sign up ends Thursday for this weekend’s downtown mini sessions - these are the only family sessions I offer each year (but you can book for updated headshots, too!). Link in bio!
