  • Sometimes I worry about monotony. Joey and I were talking the other day about how I never stayed at jobs for very long. I had always gotten the job, I’d get pretty good at it, and then I’d be ready to apply somewhere else and do something new. I was always getting bored, always trying to move on to something that wasn’t the same. I literally went from making sandwiches to working in medical research to being a server within six months. This job, though, I’ve never grown bored. I’ve never thought “wow, maybe I should try a different job,” and that is solely because this is so many jobs. One day I am photographing a couple eloping in Utah, another I get to create unique portraits with a friend. I’m not locked in to anything. I’m not going through motions. If I feel like I am becoming too cookie cutter, I get the chance to go out and create a story through messy and disorganized snapshots of life. I’m not going to be the photographer that photographs every weekend at the same venue. I’ll probably never get great at photographing large family portraits. But what I will do? I’ll find new ways to showcase emotion. I’ll story tell. I will avoid monotony.

  • This current little slower season has been so sweet I’m giving me time to flex my creative muscles and work on things that I wouldn’t normally. I’m so thankful for friends like Justice who let me stand on the side of the road taking photos of the skyline to mesh into her face. You rock. Now the Black Hills can be a part of you forever 😉 Which one do you guys like better?
