I used to watch my grandma wrap zhang when I was a little girl. “ I’ll teach you when you’re a little older “ she used to say. But life sometimes plays cruel jokes on us. I miss you always. First time using chicken for Nonya zhang and I think I prefer it to pork ! Mama will either be hopping mad or giving me 10/10 for innovation haha. For tradition sake, Bak zhang currently steaming 🥳

Being back in Singapore doesn’t mean we forget this fun yearly tradition where we all wear our crazy mismatched socks for a good cause to raise awareness, encourage conversations and reduce the stigma of doctors experiencing mental illness. It’s ok to not be ok and we are just as vulnerable as any other person out there. 🙆♀️

After 3 new ICU admits overnight, fragmented sleep because of hypotensive patient requiring up to 4 inotropes, serial cardiac enzymes 😵😵😵, DKA patient requiring serial renal panel, glucose, ketones and fluids adjustment😵😵, and HTN refractory to meds😵, spending the rest of my time curled in foetal position shivering despite jacket and blanket and socks because call room too cold ! Super relieved for ☀️ and sustenance from GIFU guru ( so touched ! Thank you !!! ) @perrynrenesmeeelliott 😘😘😘

Growing up, 🐓 eating in my family has always been a peaceful affair; we all have our favourite parts. My dad will have the 2 🍗and backside, my mom will have the wings ( and this is not your sob story where the parent has to eat a less good part like the neck because they want their kid to have the best - my mom truly love wings ) and I only eat chicken breast. But since beefe came into our lives, 🐓 eating has become a sensitive affair. The 🐔 has 2 breasts, I’m happy to share 1 breast, but my mom says beefe must have both breasts and I must now eat 🍗 and I don’t like 🍗 . So, I really dislike eating 🐓 with my family now.

Exactly 1 year ago, I picked up my stethoscope again after months of travelling and own time own target locum life. I remember the many disagreements, arguments revolving around moving back. Nick and I almost accepted that perhaps things would end up with him moving back to Singapore while I continue living in Australia. Or, us moving back to Singapore together and me moving back to Australia. Alone, haha. It is always hard to leave our comfort zone, to embrace change, to risk stepping into the unknown. We had bets from people everywhere saying “ oh, vera wouldn’t last 3 months in Singapore’s public system ! We’ll see you back soon! “ But I guess sometimes, we just need to put ourselves in uncomfortable situations, and never stop learning, never stop growing, never stop trying. It’s really no big deal, but yay thanks for the “achievement unlocked“ meal @nickyc_888 , you know I’ve been craving fried oyster for the longest time. Also, I could eat 🍣 any day and every day. And, Happy 1 Year, SKH GS.
