Yesterday we talked about knowing how much money you have coming in each month and today we are going to talk about how much money you have going out. This is just as important to know. If you don't know how much money you owe in bills and for expenses each month, you will never be able to create a realistic budget plan that you can actually stick to. To figure this number out, write down and add up all your bills. Include items such as your phone bill, mortgage/rent, gas, groceries, household necessities, utilities, car insurance, etc. If you don't already know how much you pay in bills each month, I'm challenging you to sit down TODAY and figure this out. It will take 10-15min max and is SO beneficial. Comment below and let me know if you did this!

Be honest, do you know the answer to this question? Show me a 👍 or a 👎 in the comments! Knowing this is CRUCIAL to creating a budget plan. When I say "security" what thoughts come to mind? To me, security is very much like resilience. It comes not from having a certain something (ie. a certain amount of money in your bank account, or a certain title after your name like MD that means you can always get a job somewhere), rather it is the knowing that no matter what life throws at you, you have the resources to handle it. Maybe it's a pandemic Maybe it's a job loss Maybe it's a death in the family Or a chronic disease Having true security is not tied to a job, a salary, a dollar amount, or anything but your own internal resources! You have built up those resources by dealing with a bunch of crap, making tons of mistakes, and figuring out life in the trenches. Those resources mean that you can be dropped off in the middle of nowhere in a strange city and whip up a place to eat, lodging, and a fun excursion in a matter of hours. Resources that enable you to pivot and change your business when the times or your personal whim demands and still make whatever sum you dream in your head. Security is ultimately about TRUST. Trust in yourself that you will survive, and even thrive, in whatever circumstances exist in your world. It's like a muscle and every obstacle you overcome in your life contributes to that internal security muscle that is ready for you to APPRECIATE instead of spending your days worrying about the inevitable changes life will bring your way. So go out today and keep building the trust in yourself, that no matter what, you CAN succeed!

Okay, okay, so you're probably wondering, Sarah, what does this have to do with finances? 😂 As you may have guessed, each of these things is a way to reward yourself!! As humans, we are conditioned to perform hard behaviors in hopes of getting a reward. We need to be motivated in order to be consistent and work hard. By creating positive associations with continuing on your financial path, you will improve your money mindset, and in turn your money situation. Each person has their own view of what a reward is to them. What one person LOVES may be something someone else strongly dislikes, so it is important to pick a reward that matters to YOU! I'm all for hearing about what others do to treat themselves to get new ideas. Share your favorite way to reward yourself down below! ⬇
