• “Hi, I'm Finn! I'm a 4-month-old mini Goldendoodle living with mom and two of her best friends on the lower east side. I'm new to the city and am still getting used to all the loud noises here. I love belly rubs, stealing socks, and giving high fives! I'm a very friendly pup and want to be best friends with all doggos and humans I see on my walks. If you see me walking down Brady feel free to stop for pets!” #dogsofmke

  • “Otto is a 6-month-old Lab Retriever who joined our family in August. After months of begging for a dog, I (Katie) finally convinced Mitch it was the right time. A few weeks later we make the trip to meet the his litter. At the time, we thought we would be the ones picking our pup but really it was Otto who picked us. He crawled right into our arms and fell asleep.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Otto is an expert at spreading his toys throughout the house and a doggy daycare enthusiast. He enjoys long drinks from the toilet when dad isn’t looking and rough housing with dad when mom isn’t looking. Most of all he loves to snuggle on the couch with his people and sometimes his cat sibling, Iggy. He is the best addition to our little family.” #dogsofmke

  • “Isam is an 11-year-old Belgian Malinois with a wild personality! He’s a retired military working dog that’s been living the retired life for 2.5 years now! He was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma as a patrol and explosive detection dog.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I met Isam right after he got home from his deployment to Iraq at 7 years old. He was not friendly and wouldn’t let me in his kennel. After a week of only me feeding him I earned his trust. We spent a year together working as a team until he got injured during a demonstration. At 9 years old with severe hip displasia he was retired and able to live the good life!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This winter his hips are having a lot more issues and that’s when I called Jen to have the pictures taken. The connection I have with this wild cranky maligator is one I’m so blessed to have. He’s still completely ball and food motivated and I’m thankful for every day I have with him. He served his country and deserves nothing but the world.” #dogsofmke

  • “Maple (Chocolate Lab, 5 months old) is the youngest of three, and keeps her two human sisters, ages 4 and 2, on their toes from the moment they wake up. There is also the occasional dispute regarding which toys belong to Maple and which ones do not; but there is undoubtedly a strong bond between them. Her parents are looking forward to watching the three of them grow up together. Maple is adventurous, fearless and her curiosity certainly knows no bounds. She is loving, kind, attentive, and also a little mischievous. Her favorite hobbies include being outside as much as possible, running, playing fetch, chewing on her bone and following her Dad everywhere he goes.” #dogsofmke

  • Tucker (Golden Retriever mix, 7 years old) was rescued from the humane society by his dad (Roger) when he was a little puppy, and he met his mom (Colleen) when she fell in love with him (...and Roger) at an Oktoberfest party when Tucker was one. This dog is a huge fan of all humans. To say he is a people person is an understatement, and he's always doing everything he can to make everyone happy. He also loves a good playdate with other dogs and he has made many furry friends over the years. Tucker loves a good nap. He seeks out the most comfortable places in the house and grabs one of his stuffed animals to snuggle with and catch some Z's. When he is not doing those things Tucker can be seen at his day job out on a boat "coaching" at the Milwaukee Rowing Club. He is a huge fan of the outdoors, his boat rides, and spreading his joy to all the rowers.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In October, Tucker found out that he has a mass on his spleen and his immune system was going haywire. He decided he was not going to let that get him down and set out to prove that he is a fighter. Tucker just got off of his steroids which revived his platelet count and he is feeling extremely lucky that the mass hasn’t grown over the past few months. Tucker is taking full advantage of eating as many treats as possible, getting extra attention, and soaking in all the love. He is pumped for every day and he is currently enjoying his snowy winter and extra time with his owners working from home. #dogsofmke

  • I’m going to be honest…
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know you’re supposed to “show up” in your feed and stories in order to have a successful Instagram account, but lately I’ve been struggling. I feel like I don’t have anything interesting to say or sometimes just don’t feel like it. I blame winter, quarantine, and other things I’m not going to talk about publicly on the internet.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not long ago @brucecooperwayne’s mom, Apurba, DM’d me and said I should share some behind the scenes stories about “what your photographer never tells you.” I thought this was a great idea and have been thinking about it since. Here’s a few things you may or may not know about me, my business, and what it’s like to be a dog photographer.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🐾 I will sometimes call the dog by the owner’s name on accident, especially if the owner has a name commonly also used for dogs. It’s so embarrassing! I’m sorry Izzy, Griffin, and any one else I did this to by mistake.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🐾 Every. single. dog. tries to get into my camera backpack. Not only are there bags of Stella and Chewy’s treats in there, but usually a few crumbs fall out, so I’m sure the entire backpack smells like a giant dog treat. That backpack has been set down on every type of ground surface and has even been peed on (I’m calling you out Chewy!), so it’s ok! (Don’t worry, I clean it all the time.)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🐾 Dog owners apologize to me for the silliest things. Their dog’s shedding, short attention span, drool, jumping, barking, etc. This is what I do! I expect it. I want you and your dog to feel comfortable, so let them be them and be unapologetic about it!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🐾 It’s also ok if your dog licks my camera lens. I have something called a filter over the actual lens (this is different from an Instagram filter, ha!) that serves to protect it from scratches, drops, and even slobbery dog kisses. They are inexpensive so once they get scratched or broken, I just replace it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is the just the beginning so let me know if you like hearing about these sorts of things. Or let me know other things you’d love for me to share. Seriously, ask me anything in the comments below! #dogsofmke

  • I love all dogs, but Margery Rose (14-year-old rescue Pug) is my most favorite of all. She and her bestie Alfie helped show off their moms’ new business. Learn more below!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Lauren and Emily are the co-founders of @goldenpampas_mke, an event planning and styling business here in Milwaukee. We have been friends since 6th grade. Now our dogs, Alf and Marge are the best of friends too. Over our 15+ years of friendship, we have always talked about starting a business together. When COVID-19 hit, Lauren was in the middle of planning her wedding for October 2020. Planning any event can be stressful, but add a pandemic in and everything changes. Events look a little different today, but if we’ve learned anything this year it’s that connection is more important than ever. We want to help people find ways to connect with friends and family whether that be a baby shower, bachelorette party, dinner at home with friends, or even your dog’s birthday party. We want to help take the stress out of planning an event and make your Pinterest board dreams come to life.” #dogsofmke
