I thought I’d share a little Friday introduction with you - enneagram style. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ve drunk the kool-aid, you guys. I was a little bit skeptical of the enneagram at first- how could you fit a diverse world of human beings into 9 simple types? But I’m obsessed now. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m a 9. Which means I don’t talk very much. It’s not because I don’t have anything to say or I don’t have an opinion. it’s because I think the world is too loud. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I only talk once I have really thought about what I want to say, if I know what I’m going to say has value, or if someone explicitly asks, “Hey Marisa, what do you think about this?” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Learning about the enneagram has been so helpful in understanding why I do things and why the people I love do things. Do you guys follow the enneagram? I’m dying to know what type you all are! Comment with your Enneagram number!
I kept thinking about this branding concept for an interior designer and I just could not get it out of my head. I've been so inspired by the patterns and shapes of interiors. I thought I would make this 'lil personal project come to life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I'm just loving the hand-drawn key paired with the typography for a classic and elegant branding. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Have you had something inspiring you and tugging at you that you just had to get out? Maybe it was a styled shoot or bouquet you would think about every time you went to bed. I'd love to hear about it!
I'm gonna be honest with you, I don't know if it's the short work week or what, but I have been having the hardest time getting myself to be productive this week. I'm talking all-time sluggish over here - dragging my feet like no other. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Like no matter how many cups of coffee I drink I'm scooting around at a snail's pace. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What do you do to get motivated?
I'm trying something new! I want to highlight all of my new branding and web design launches in a more casual and in-depth way. So in addition to a portfolio entry on my website, I'm going to do a blog post that gives a little bit more insight into the brand. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So I hope you'll join me over on my blog today where I talk about this new branding!
One of the biggest lessons I have learned this year is to jump. It's been to not wait until things feel perfectly planned, in line, and safe. It's been to jump and to just trust that there will be a net there to catch me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This year I have been shedding the inner perfectionist and constantly reminding myself to do things before I am ready. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yeah, this means I am walking around with the simultaneous feeling of a thousand pounds in my stomach and the constant buzzing and excitement of extreme energy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But hey, friend, what have you jumped for recently? What has you scared shitless but so hopped up on energy and excitement for the future?
This welcome guide was so much fun to put together. I loved translating Luke’s new branding into an experience that he could give his couples after they had booked him. Plus he made it super easy on me with all of his beautiful photos 😍 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I can’t recommend investing in a custom welcome guide enough. They answer all of your most frequently asked questions, gives your couples tips on what to wear to their shoots, and reinforces that they made a great choice in booking you.
Have you ever been told that you can judge a man by his shoes? We all know it's really not that simple. But it is true that what we choose to wear silently communicates to the people around us about our personality, our interests, our culture. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The clothes that we choose to wear also affect how we perceive ourselves. I always feel more confident when I change out of my old yoga pants and put on my best fitting jeans and favorite top. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Well, that's what branding is. Just like our clothes are silently communicating to the outside world about who we are - design is silently communicating all of the intricacies of your brand. It's constantly saying all of the subtle and fine details of your story. Inconspicuously communicating your values, ideas, and ethos. And in return - good design gives your business that added confidence. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So I want to know, what is your design subtly communicating to the world around it? Is your design giving you confidence or are you constantly questioning it?
A couple of weeks of ago this website launched! Pop the champagne, ya'll! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I love this fun, one-page, website whose primary call to action is to get people to join their mailing list. Calls to actions are so important to have all over your website. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Your lead has read, or at least scanned, the content on your website and may be on the fence about taking the next step. So simply ask them to take action. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A few inside tips on CTAs: 1. Have a primary and a secondary CTA. The primary should be your main goal (purchase your service/product, sign up for your online class, etc.) The secondary CTA should be what they should do to keep in touch with you if they aren't quite ready to book with you yet. This could be opting in for a freebie, joining your email list, following you on social. This should be a way for you to build community, trust, and a genuine relationship. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. You should have a CTA on every single page. Every page of your website gives your user a new opportunity to take action. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. Place your CTAs strategically and prominently on the page. Your CTA should be bold, eye-catching and have high contrast. Users tend to scan pages in an F or Z pattern, so I always like to put CTAs to the right of the page and at the very bottom. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So here's a challenge for you, take a look at your website and count how many times you call people to take action on your site. I'd love it if you let me know in the comments!
It's so funny how inspiration can just knock you in the face sometimes. I get inspiration from the most unusual places sometimes. Most recently, while waiting to get seated at a restaurant. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was with my brother in Portland and we decided to kill time by walking around outside while we waited to be called for our table. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And this restaurant just happened to have the most beautiful cherry blossom tree. It was just moving in the wind in the most peaceful and perfect way. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I suddenly realized I wanted to create a website template with hand drawn elements that look like they were drawn with graphite. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So the next day I sat down and drew flowers. I love the unexpected graphite drawing in an online space. Something about mixing two mediums that don't belong together has gotten me all types of excited. I can't wait to share more of it because it makes me so giddy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ All because of an idea that came from waiting to get seated at a restaurant. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I know you must get inspiration at the most unexpected of places or times too. What's been one of your favorites?
