I love a good love story, so I thought I would share one with you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Danny and I met working. He was eating a salad and I commented that it looked really good. He offered to share it with me, I declined. Who shares a salad with a stranger? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Fast forward to three years later to last Wednesday. My dad was visiting from the east coast and we all went to Smith Rock, one of my favorite places in Oregon. Danny pulled me aside and we went over to a lookout area. He fumbled with his words, nervously pulled out a ring, and got down on one knee. He asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. I said YES, there is no one else in this world I'd rather be with. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We walked back and Danny's mom (who had driven up from California) and my dad were there waiting. Danny had even arranged for my mom to come out to the west coast too but wasn't able to due to some family things. It was such an awesome surprise to have our families there together. We spent the night celebrating and eating the best meal ever. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Okay, now your turn. What's your love story?! I've been getting so mushy over here, I'd love to learn yours! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Photo by @dawn_photo
Do you ever feel like you aren't doing enough? You can never check off as many things as you'd like? And then when you finally do get to check something off the to-do list somehow it just keeps growing longer?! (Like howww is it even possible?!) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You aren't alone. I've been feeling that way too. The other week I was talking to my friend @emma_natter and she asked me to list everything I had done in the last three months that I was proud of. And just when I felt like I had been spinning my wheels for months I realized I had already accomplished so much! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So I want to ask you, friend, what have you done in the last three months that you're really proud of? Tell me below in the comments so I can cheer you on too!
It's another launch day! I'm not going to lie, I was a little bit nervous but very excited when Erin from @kindledandkindred asked me to do her website for her.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There's something a little bit intimidating about doing a website for a fellow brand designer. But I'm so glad I took on the challenge. This is one of my favorite websites that I've made to date. There are so many fun layouts throughout the website so I hope that you'll hop over to Erin's profile and help her celebrate all of her hard work and check out her new website!
Should I say it louder for the people in the back!? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You, your business - it's complex, it's multifaceted, and it's packed with personality. So how do you show all of that in a logo? Well, the quick answer is you don't! In my opinion, it just isn't possible. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I think of it this way, your brand is a great novel and your logo is just chapter one. It's the introduction, the hello, the small glimpse into what your audience is in store for. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In all honesty, the logo isn't even that important to me. How your branding makes someone FEEL - now that's what I focus on. That's where I find that branding has a truly powerful effect. This is where the magic is.
It's launch day for @kaygilganphoto !! It's been such a pleasure working with this sweet soul. I hope you'll hop over to her account and share some love with her! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was talking with her yesterday about how vulnerable launching something new into the world can feel. We've both spent so much time on this project and she's poured her heart out into the new beautiful words for her website. And then when it's finally time to share all of the hard work, something just starts to hold you back. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Have you ever felt that before? I know I have. The freeze. The fear. A little bit of insecurity. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But you know what, anything that will take you to a new level, push you further than you have ever been before should be scary. If it wasn't, everyone would be doing it, it wouldn't be as important as it really is. So, friend, I hope that you'll embrace that fear and know that it's taking you to new places!
There are only 1,440 minutes in a day and I'm sitting here reminding you that it's okay to kick your feet up. Take a break. It's okay to feel like you need to unwind before you've even begun. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Mondays can be hard to get started and as someone who has always struggled with intentional rest, this is my reminder to you and to myself to rest deliberately and to rest often. Take that walk after lunch, close your eyes for a little bit if you're feeling tired, head to the gym if you are anxious. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It's okay if you don't check everything off your list today.
Okay, I know the drill. Most people decide not to invest in new branding or a website because they feel like their brand isn't worth it, they put it off, feeling that they aren't ready yet. But really, they aren't willing to invest in themselves. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I totally get it…investing in yourself can be really scary. For the longest time, I didn't think that my business was legit enough for great photography, that I wasn't ready to invest in a copywriter, and that I certainly didn't deserve a coach or mentor. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But...it doesn’t have to be like that. My friend, you are worthy. You do deserve this. You should take that chance on yourself. YOU are the most important thing you can place your time and money on.
Danny travels a lot for work which means I don't get to see him much on the weekdays but then we realized hey, I make my own schedule so I've been tagging along for his work trip and working in the hotel room. I even brought my second screen to make it feel more like my office. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is what keeps me motivated: The ability to make my own schedule, work where I want, and when I want. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But tell me friend, What keeps you motived?
This week I'm working on a brand strategy for a new client. It's one of my favorite parts of the whole process. It's where I get to really know you, dream about your future and possibilities, think deeply about what could be. It's where we set up the whole direction of your brand. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here's a little peek at what's included:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Brand Mission⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Brand Values⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Audience Demographics⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Audience Emotions and Beliefs⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Your Brand Character and Personality⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Your Brand's Voice⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ and thennnn we get to the art direction and mood board. For me, it's important to understand your brand inside and out before ever thinking of the visuals.
