In week 8 of our With Honor series Pastor Peter shared on honoring your wife. 1 Peter 3:7 tells us that as Christians you must “Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.” The image of God is made up of both the male and female perspectives. When a man and woman are joined together in marriage they are no longer separate but now joined together as one. They become partners in the Kingdom of God. Together, they are able to see things through the proper lens of God - both male and female. “𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘩𝘶𝘴𝘣𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴, 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘸𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴, 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘴 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘩.” - 𝘌𝘱𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝟻:𝟸𝟻 Your wife was a daughter of God before she was your wife and should be treated as such. God is the example of the greatest Father and husband, therefore you are not expected to love your bride with your own love but with the overflow of Christ’s good and perfect love flowing through you. Part of putting the Kingdom first in our lives as husbands, is putting our wives first and loving them as Christ loved the church. The result of serving your wife will be that she will serve you in return. Ask yourself this question: Is my wife my treasure or my trouble - what value do I place on her - is the Kingdom first?

This past weekend we heard from Pastor Ashley on Honoring the leaders in our home. Honoring our parents is not a suggestion but a commandment and it is attached to a great promise. “‘Honor your father and mother’… ‘so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.’” 𝘌𝘱𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝟼:𝟸-𝟹 𝘛𝘗𝘛. True honor originates in our hearts and cannot be faked. God is clear about our responsibility to honor our parents and about the consequences of dishonoring them. This is seen in the story of Reuben, Jacob’s (Israel’s) oldest son. “…Since he dishonored his father by sleeping with one of his father's concubines, his birthright was given to his half brother, Joseph. For this reason, Reuben is not listed in the genealogical records as the firstborn son.” 𝟷 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝟻:𝟷 𝘊𝘌𝘝. Reuben’s resentment and dishonor towards his father cost him his birthright. So many have unresolved issues and hurts from their upbringing. Let’s remember that parents/caregivers are accountable to God for their actions and He is the one who brings correction and discipline to them. When we realize that WE are holding onto the pain, offence and unforgiveness, then we can repent and move on. Christ died for the sins of everyone, past, present and future and God enables us to forgive. He teaches us how to honour our domestic leaders despite their flaws. He uses our experiences to shape our character and build into us who He destined us to be. We can then move forward into the freedom that can be passed down to our future generations. Do you have offence that you are still holding onto? Are you able to recall painful memories from your past that still affect you? Allow the Holy Spirit to show you where the root of that pain started. Know that God was with you in that moment, He has never left you and has always had your best interest at heart. Make the choice today to forgive that person and move forward. Repent for holding it against them and for allowing it to consume your life. 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝, 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐧, 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐭.
