I set out at seven this morning to find some burial mounds. I crossed a plain of daisy and yarrow, white and silent and dewdropped. I came to a place of warm sun and the yellows and purples of gorse and heather. There I spotted the first low dome of heath, a rising of ancient heaped earth over bones long gone. And as I stared six white ponies appeared from behind it and came slowly past. My goosebumps had goosebumps for a long while after. It was a strange and poignant moment. Bringing up the rear was a foal, not white, dark brown. I found all six mounds. The seventh was hidden in dense bracken and bramble. A winter find I think. The rest of the photos are from each of the other mounds. I sat with the last one a while, drinking my cuppa in the sun. Ancestors were fairly chatty this morning. I gathered a few things as told to me. I went to a tree as told to me. There in the bark, caught from a good scratching was a tangle of long white mane hair. I brought the gift from the ancestors home. The old ones sought. The old ones found.
