The Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, was a first step in what has been a long, difficult journey to bring to all Americans the ideals it proclaimed as self-evident. . We honor that journey while acknowledging it is far from complete. We honor those ideals while acknowledging where we have fallen short. . The nation was born in protest and forged in struggle. Our national journey began with that first step 244 years ago; it continues today. . From every mountainside, let freedom ring. . #IndependenceDay #JulyFourth #holiday . Congrats to Leah Selznick, #VCUPharmacy Class of ‘20, for winning the Student Leadership Award from @ashpofficial! Learn more at the link in ASHP’s bio.
There is a lot going on in the world. People are crying out for justice. . This is a good time to recall that June — Pride Month — recognizes the Stonewall uprising 51 years ago next week. That stand against police oppression, led by African American and trans protesters, helped lead to more justice for LGBTQ+ Americans. . Standing up for justice is an American ideal.
#VCU is closed in honor of #Juneteenth. . Today we at #VCUPharmacy join millions around the world to celebrate the end of slavery in this country and reflect on its legacy of racial injustice — including health disparities. . Today we celebrate how far we have come & remember how far we have to go. Our healing work continues.

A message from leadership at VCU School of Pharmacy. . #OneVCUSoP #values. . . . . . . . [Transcription: We have all been horrified by the senseless killings of African-Americans, most recently George Floyd in Minnesota and Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia. These and similar tragedies in Kentucky, New York and other places across our nation have brought many of us face to face with the horrific realities of injustice and racism. . We want to reaffirm to each of you our commitment as a school against racial injustice and violence. We find strength in our community's shared values of respect, fairness and compassion. And we are proud that as a university VCU stands strongly against intolerance of any kind. . Earlier this year, the School of Pharmacy's culture of inclusion and engagement was recognized by VCU. Events like these remind us that our culture is not static and our work is not done. Inclusion is a value that must be lived and reinforced every day, by each of us. . Now and always we join together to support each other in the face of injustice. As educators, healers and scientists, we must vow to continue our work toward a better, fairer, stronger world for all of us. . We will accept no less. . Many of you are understandably hurting and upset. Please reach out to trusted faculty members and community leaders. There are other resources available to you at VCU. They include: Dr. K.C. Ogbonna (email@example.com) Dr. Tori Keel (firstname.lastname@example.org) University Counselling Services (students.vcu.edu/counseling) The Wellness Resource Center (thewell.vcu.edu) VCU Dean of Students Dr. Reuban Rodriguez (email@example.com) The VCU Student Assistance and Support Team (firstname.lastname@example.org) . Masks are important — many people are making them at home. What if you could make a full set of PPE the same way? . Our Dayanjan “Shanaka” Wijesinghe worked with @VCU fashion professor Cate Latham to create a one-piece PPE design that needs nothing more than a clothes iron and a roll of plastic you can get at any hardware store. .
