I have a self-driven personality. I set goals and work toward them, even when it's hard. I look forward to challenges and love finding productivity solutions. For all of that to work, I need structure. Predictability. I like plans. I really, really like plans. So much for that, right? If you're self-driven like I am, it can be hard to function in an environment where you suddenly have no control. You can do practical things like: -- Separate your day into time blocks to make it feel structured -- Break tasks into small steps that are easier to digest -- Create new, mini-goals that can be achieved flexibly -- Identify goals that are no longer practical in your current circumstances, put them on hold, and set a future date to reassess that choice But mostly, I remind myself that there is beauty in unpredictability. I try to embrace possibilities and look for creative solutions. I believe that when a door closes, a window opens somewhere and I start looking for that window instead of banging against the door. Are you self-driven? How is that affecting you right now? 📷 credit: @vegan_asya #eatprettythings #heresmyfood #gatheredstyle #damnthatsdelish #foodie_features #eatpretty #fromscratch #marthafood #foodwinewomen #food4thought #foodtography #selfdriven #selfmotivated #adjustment #adjustments #newgoals #newnormal #learnfoodphotography #meandmymanfrotto #ShootMacro #foodflutter #eatmoremagic #myfoodphotography #photographieculinaire #stylisteculinaire #photographeculinaire #stylismeculinaire

Have you graduated to a work-from-home life...whether you wanted to or not? Hey, we all get it here. It's not a vacation. You're STILL WORKING. But it's under a completely different set of circumstances than you are used to. Even if you're not wired for this set up, you can still be productive by following some basic steps: -- Actually write out a to-do list -- Force yourself to take regular breaks, even if it doesn't feel like you've "earned" one yet -- Set aside dedicated time for housework so it doesn't distract you as you work -- If you have children at home too, plan way more self-guided activities for them than you ever, Ever, EVER thought you would need. But make sure that you make time for some engaged play time with the kids, instead of trying to wing work and play at the same time and ultimately half assing both {scuse my French} Did I miss anything? Add it in the comments! We're all in this together. #eatprettythings #heresmyfood #gatheredstyle #damnthatsdelish #foodie_features #eatpretty #workfromhome #workfromhomelife #coronavirus #howto #hereshow #freelancingfromhome #eatprettythings #heresmyfood #gatheredstyle #damnthatsdelish #foodie_features #eatpretty #fromscratch #marthafood #foodwinewomen #food4thought #meandmymanfrotto #foodflutter #eatmoremagic #myfoodphotography #photographieculinaire #stylisteculinaire #photographeculinaire #stylismeculinaire

I’m not gonna lie to you guys, this week was a roller coaster. Monday was okay, with a good balance of family time and work and I felt like “we’ll be fine, we got this”. Then Tuesday rolled around with its blah weather and rain. My hubby had a ton of work, so I spent the day trying to get some work done while watching the kid, and honestly, I didn’t do a good job at neither of those things. At 3pm, both my hubby and I were in a total doomsday mood, so we decided to just stop whatever we were doing and take the kid on a long walk. Aaaaaahhh, much better 🚶♀️ 🌸🌳 Being outside definitely helped our mood and we agreed to let each other know when we’d get back into that negative place so we could help each other out of it. Yesterday was another busy day for my hubby, so I just decided to let it go. I’d do my work after dinner, or tomorrow morning (aka right now at 6am as I am writing these words). I actually had a very good day. Filled mostly with puzzles, play doh and pillow fights, the 3 pillars of social distancing with a 3 year old 😂 I don’t know if this whole experience is going to make me a better photographer (I haven’t touched my 📷since last week), but I’m pretty sure it’ll make me a better mom. I'm learning to be more attentive and present with him because right now, his dad and I are literally his whole world. He needs to be engaged and stimulated and that’s on us {and kudos to the teachers of the world because that’s a lot of work} 😅 So I’m decidedly positive about this. It'll suck, no doubt about it, but I also want to believe that it'll change things that need to be changed and it'll help us grow in so many ways. I want to borrow my friend Tina’s @tina_engel_food_and_pics words: “I am absolutely determined that this whole crisis will bring a huge value to our lives. It is tough not to meet friends anymore (explain that to a teenager…), but it is also a huge chance to understand what responsibility for the society means, what it takes to stand up alone and to learn a lot about self-responsibility. So let’s make the best out of this situation.” We got this if we do it together {but each in his own house, because, you know #socialdistancing} 😉

I'm guessing you've got a little bit of time on your hands right now. Or at least it feels that way, right? Get rest if you need it, take some time if it helps, but don't miss out on the opportunity for professional development and reflection while you've got it. I've been taking time to revisit some of my favorite blogs, books, and podcasts, and you know what happened? All the *bleh* went away from my situation. I felt inspired. I got excited to try some things out. Sometimes bland circumstances become beautiful opportunities for growth, or at least that's the way I'm choosing to see it. If you need somewhere to start, check out my blog posts about automation {great time to automate right now!!}, goal setting, upgrading your customer experience, and more at French.ly/blog/ Let me know in the comments what other topics would really help you right now? #eatprettythings #heresmyfood #gatheredstyle #eatpretty #fromscratch #marthafood #foodwinewomen #food4thought #foodtography #photographieculinaire #stylisteculinaire #photographeculinaire #stylismeculinaire #f52grams #yahoofood #tastingtable #onmytable #lifeandthyme #still_life_gallery #foodstyling #food52 #beautifulcuisines #hautecuisines #realsimple #foodblogeats #tastingtable #learnfoodphotography #foodflutter #eatmoremagic #myfoodphotography
