Focus on what you can control.⠀ ⠀ This is what I keep repeating to myself about the current situation we're all living in - but it also rings so true when it comes to baby sleep.⠀ ⠀ Sleep environment is something we have control over and it plays a huge factor in how well our babies sleep.⠀ ⠀ Our sleep specialists - Nicky and Amanda @littleonesbabysleep have lots to say about the perfect sleep environment for babies.⠀ ⠀ ✨WHITE NOISE⠀ Babies love white noise because it's exactly what they're used to hearing in the womb. You can use a white noise machine, fan, phone or iPad.⠀ ⠀ ✨SAFE⠀ As recommended by the AAP safe sleep is your baby in their own sleeping space, on their back on a firm mattress with no clothing or blankets near their face.⠀ ⠀ ✨COOL⠀ Babies take a while to learn to self regulate their body temperature. They can be very sensitive to even slight changes in temperature. The best temperature for baby's sleep space is advised around 18 - 22 degrees C or 64 - 68 degrees F. Check if your baby is warm enough by feeling their core - hands, feet, face may feel cooler and this is fine.⠀ ⠀ ✨DARK⠀ Darkness produces melatonin, a hormone responsible for sleep. Using blackout blinds or similar in your baby's sleep space is an easy step towards great sleep.⠀ ⠀ ✨MONITOR⠀ This is a great choice if want to be able to put baby down in their crib and then leave the room and get things done or have a rest yourself.⠀ ⠀ ✨NATURAL FIBERS⠀ Try to avoid synthetic or manmade materials for your baby's bedding. These fibers do not breathe and your baby can be at a risk of overheating. We recommend cotton, bamboo or merino wool.⠀ ⠀ Okay - so that may seem like a lot - but it's truly the smallest things that make a difference. So give some of these a try and let us know how it goes!⠀ ⠀ What is your baby's sleep environment like?
