Friends, meet “Super Dark”--our darkest chocolate bar yet. Bursting with big cocoa flavor, it’s robust yet smooth with hints of molasses and burnt caramel. Basically, not your average extra-dark chocolate bar. • We carefully blend our two boldest origins to create this 88% bar, made with premium cocoa beans gathered and fermented by our farmer partners: Mama Mpoki in Mababu, Tanzania and Vitaliano Sarabia in San Jose Del Tambo, Ecuador. We’re proud to marry their Trinitario and Arriba Nacional beans for an extra-dark chocolate bar that’s big and bold, but not bitter. • —> Shop brand new “Super Dark” at askinosie.com, our factory storefront and soon on the shelves of our retail partners across the country!
“Dancing In the Dark”, “The Dark Of the Sun”, “Fishin’ In the Dark”.... just a few of our favorite songs! Orrrrrr mayyybe it’s a hint at our newest bar dropping next week. Make sure you’re signed up for our newsletters to be the first to know!
Rep your hometown chocolate AND stay cozy with our “Support Your Local Chocolate Maker” sweatshirt. Fleece-lined and only smelling a *teensy* bit like chocolate, this pullover is in heavy rotation around the factory (say hello to our Design & Marketing Manager, Kaylyn!). We’ve restocked a small handful of the sweatshirts, so snag one while you can. Available now at askinosie.com and at our factory storefront.
What an honor! Our newest single origin, 72% Zamora, Amazonia Dark Chocolate Bar won a #GoodFoodAward!!! After passing rigorous a blind-tasting and social responsibility vetting, this direct trade bar of ours is now considered the best of the best. Shawn and Lawren traveled to San Francisco last weekend to accept this momentous award--now our 4th Good Food Award!--and we can’t wait to celebrate with our Zamora cocoa farmer partners soon. Huge thanks to the @goodfoodfdn and congratulations to our fellow winners! Find the entire list of winning food-makers from across the country here and learn more about our earthy, rich, award-winning bar in our stories. #goodfoodawards2019
While we’re making chocolate at the Askinosie HQ, Shawn & Lawren are in San Francisco this week for a huge honor: we’re Good Food Award finalists for two chocolate bars! Winners are announced at the award ceremony this evening. Join us in keeping your fingers and toes crossed for our Coconut Milk Chocolate & 72% Zamora, Amazonia Dark Chocolate! Follow @goodfoodfdn and stay tuned here for updates.
Eating clean in 2019? Chocolate can be part of that too! We made legendary food journalist, @markbittman’s, recipe for Chocolate Tofu Pudding with our Dark Chocolate + Avocado & Rosemary Bar (created in collaboration with @heathceramics) and we’re smitten. It’s a silky smooth #dairyfree dessert that still satisfies your sweet tooth. 😋 Find the recipe in our stories today and shop our newest CollaBAR on the shelves of specialty retailers across the country and online askinosie.com.
For us, #directtrade also means transparency. Last year we purchased 35.5 metric tons of cocoa beans from 4 different origins, bringing the grand total of cash farmers have received since 2007 to $1,158,715.34. When Shawn visits our farmer partners this year, he’ll profit share from the 2018 crops and hand cash over for the farmers to distribute or invest as they see fit. Davao, Philippines (where these Trinitario bean-beauties are drying) is the first origin trip of the year, and he departs soon! Find even more facts & figures shared in our annual Transparency Report at askinosie.com. #transparency #eatgoodchocolate #askinosie #beantobar #reversescale #origintripDavao
Happy New Year! We’re starting 2019 off with a little Q&A. Ever wondered how we locate and partner with amazing small-holder farmers in remote places? What Shawn’s hobbies were before he got into chocolate making? Why we say it’s not about the chocolate, it’s about the chocolate? Ask Founder & CEO, @shawnaskinosie (pictured here with our lead farmer partner in Davao, Philippines, Peter), anything today on our Instagram stories (or comment below) & we’ll answer as many as we can. #ama
This time between Christmas & New Year is one of our favorite times of year. We’re winding down our busiest season, and taking time to rest and reflect on our vision and goals for the new year ahead. Lately, we’ve been focused on a question from Shawn & Lawren’s book, #MeaningfulWork “How much is enough?” With that in mind, 2019 will bring some exciting changes, with a laser-focus on our dual-vocation: making excellent chocolate and serving our farmer partners, customers, and each other. 🙌🎉 Our factory will be open 11am-3pm on New Year’s Eve and we’ve got all your host/hostess gifts + chocolate provisions covered! We’ll be closed New Year’s Day, and back in action on Wednesday 1/2! #askinosie #directtrade
