Friends, as many of you know health and wellbeing is a HUGE part of who I am. But, it wasn't always this way. From the age of 15 to my mid-20s I struggled with crippling IBS pain and a very confused gut.π¬β£ β£ It felt like everything I ate would send my stomach into painful spasms and sometimes it was easier to just not eat anything at all.π’β£ β£ Fast forward to today and those words uttered by my GP of... One of those days here in Melbourne when itβs impossible not to get outside into the fresh air βοΈ . Iβve got a stack of work to get done, a workshop to write and a to do list as long as my arm... but today they can all wait. When your head is swimming and your mind is a blur, I find the only thing that helps is to just step away from it all. It can all wait. Really it can. . Living out in the bush itβs sometimes easy to take for granted the rainforest we live in. Getting outside reminds me of where Iβve come from, and the pokey 1 bedroom apartment in the city with a balcony of plants for my nature hit. I get why itβs so easy to put fruit in the same bucket as sugar. But can we just hold on for a moment? . You see unlike added sugar and sugar substitutes, fruit comes perfectly packaged in fibre (which helps keep you full amongst other things) and is packed with precious vitamins and minerals ππ» . And unlike fruit juice (donβt even get me started...)which has the fibre stripped out of it, youβre not eating βfree sugarsβ. Youβre eating a whole food. . So please donβt be afraid of fruit ok? . Weβve been amazingly fortunate to have a neighbour in the mountain who grows his own berries, so Iβve been filling up buckets and buckets of berries strawberry π . Still not entirely sure what Iβll be making with all of them yet though. I feel some cooking coming in... . Any suggestions? Where do you even begin with regaining control over your cravings? Where do you start? β Because I'm pretty sure you know that food is only part of what's going on. β ββββββββJust following a diet plan, sugar detox or going cold turkey MISSES a crucial piece of the puzzle when it comes to quitting or cutting back on sugar for good. β You have to go deeper. I mean A LOT deeper. β You need to get behind the curtains of your cravings. β And there youβll find some answers. Youβll likely discover that you are still relying on sugar and comfort food to fill a need. You know when you feel bored, upset, sad, restless? And you just want to stop feeling that way? β And you canβt just talk yourself out of it right? I mean weβve all tried... And how many of us lasted more than a day? A week? β So how do you break this pattern? π€·ββοΈ β The first step is to get AWARE, really get aware of the feeling youβre trying to numb out or not feel. β This is what I teach all my clients in the program I run and itβs POWERFUL. β Start asking yourself every time you feel that βneedβ, βwhat am I really feeling right now?β, and write it down. β Then start thinking of different ways to satisfy that need that donβt involve food. β Iβm curious, what answers do you think you'll give to yourself? Too many times I see women who are trying to quit sugar beat themselves up when they fall off the wagon. β They berate themselves for not being strong enough π« β ββββββββββThey believe that itβs just a game of willpower. They believe they are weak willed. ββββββββββ In reality thinking this way isn't helping ayone. So if youβre STILL relying on willpower to cut back or quit sugar then hereβs why itβs causing you to stay stuck. ββββββββββ When you rely on willpower, you are constantly battling with the voices in your head. ββββββββββ You are constantly battling with temptation. ββββββββββ Itβs exhausting and itβs just not sustainable over the long term... ββββββββββ And even if you do manage to succeed for a few days, or a few weeks or a few months, at some point the temptation just gets too much and you cave. ββββββββ And youβre back to day 1 π€¦ββοΈ β ββββββββββYouβre back to feeling disheartened, disappointed and angry at yourself. β ββββββββββBecause hereβs the thing, willpower comes from the part of your brain that gets tired when you use it too much. You can use up an enormous amount of energy trying to resist your desires. β ββββββββββSo instead of relying on this limited resource, you need to go deeper and understand the REAL reason youβre craving sweet foods and sugar. βββββββββ You need to tap into a more powerful part of your brain - your subconscious mind.π§ βββββββββββ This is where your habits live and the prgrams which are determining what you will or wonβt do. In fact this part of your mind is 30,000 times MORE powerful than the conscious part of your mind. ββββββββ This is why willpower fails you. βββββββββββ When you start tapping into the REAL reaons behind your cravings, you will be amazed at the results you'll be able to achieve. ββββββββββ βββββββββββIβm curious.
