My neighbor came to the shop today. He wanted a quick knife making lesson. I grabbed some blade blanks and scraps of wood we had for scales and we did a couple fish fillet knives today. After that he invites me to his farm in Iowa for the “best Pheasant hunting in the state”. Must be good Karma day.
Testing new formula epoxy with viscosity of Vaseline. This is a variation of Blade Bond Ultra I asked Andy to make for me to test. Mixes 50-50 by volume. Mixes and spreads on easy. No drips. We’ll see how it sets up. Various strength numbers are planned to exceed most epoxies.
Done. Micro Shred CF scales, zirc clip, M390 Blade. My scratches on the pivot heads.
Today’s shop tip. These are silicone baking cups in muffin size. They come in a sheet. Cut them apart. Best little parts cups ever. Here I am blackening some screw heads in Caswell Stainless Steel Blackener.
Engraved some pivot heads for a folder. Turns out I used the wrong size and these are .050”DIA too big. I guess I’ll use these on the next folder and remake them the right size.
Ready to engrave a bit. Sharpening and makers mark is last.
Today’s shop tip. If you are sculpting a delicate handle scale, go slow with a high grit on a 1” flex back belt using a slack wheel set up.
Change my mind.
