It's the easiest thing in the world. Gracious criticism of real-life, flesh-and-blood people we love is hard because we have to reach inside of ourselves and ask "Do I love them enough to say this? Do I love them enough to say this well? Do I value their good above my own?" and often we don't say the honest good thing because we're scared our friends will turn away from us. But when we lean in and speak hard truth in love, beautiful things happen. That isn't the majority of what we're seeing on the internet these days. It takes no spine to criticize strangers on the internet. Even worse, it takes no love to do it either. We are not without sin, so our stones aimed at strangers belong on the ground alongside the stones of those pharisees from so long ago.

“Who could ever find a wife like this one she is a woman of strength and mighty valor! She’s full of wealth and wisdom. She gives out revelation-truth to feed others.” These are just a few of the words from Proverbs 31 that describe this incredible woman. What I have loved most about Julie this month is watching her stretch, implementing the discipline to dig deep and push beyond previous barriers to growth. What a joy it is to be married to such an incredible woman! - note: this picture is from book launch day a year ago. She truly implements the lessons I try to teach in the book- and more and more I am finding that the concepts in the book came directly from what I was learning by watching her in action!

This may sound dramatic, but do your best to answer the question honestly. Now look at your answer, what does it reveal about what you value? How can you steer your life to align with your values today (even if, especially if, you have more than one year ahead of you!) Tell me what you're thinking in the comments!

The best gift I have ever received is life with Julie. As you're chasing what's in front of you, don't forget the person next to you... reaching your goal will be so much sweeter if they're right there with you when you do.

What can you let go of? What are you hanging on to that you just don't need anymore? Shed the dead weight, my friend.

The older I get, the more I am learning to appreciate the disciplines my mother helped instill in my life. She taught me how to be a student (often against my will). She showed me the value of continuous self-improvement and possibility thinking. She modeled creative problem solving. But most of all, she guided me in understanding the value of a faith that is genuine and a family that makes time for each other, even in the busiest of seasons. Friends, look to the people who went before you - what have they taught you? How can you thank them?
