It’s been a while since I’ve posted a real video because we’ve been moving and I’ve had a bad cold. However, we are all moved in and check out my home office 😍🎻😍! . . . The first movement of solo Bach I teach to students who haven’t performed Bach yet is the minuet from the first suite. I love these minuets because the notes seem simple and straightforward, but they it is idea for teaching ringing tones, clean strong crossings, and intuitive phrasing. . . . I never tire of playing them. 🥰 . . . . #viola #bach #homeoffice #yogi #backtoschool
Got to play a few notes in my new home office space today! 🎻🏡🎻
Howdy y’all! . . . Rhythmic musicality...what’s that? Musical subdivisions...what? . . . Been musing over subdividing musically. Thinking about the inner and undercurrent of rhythmic energy gains and losses. When playing I’m subdividing the rhythms but thinking of them in terms of musical direction. . . . Want to know more about how to do it or what I mean? Just email me or contact me directly. 🎻🎻🎻 #clarkesonata #rhythm #viola #yogiviolist #yoga
Just a little afternoon with Mr. Hindemith. Chords are fun. I’ve been amazed at how much posture impacts sound and chords. Of course, I teach this and I’ve known about it forever, but when you make frequent videos and catch watch yourself droop then stand up straight again, it’s amazing to hear and see the difference! I had no idea how slouchy I had become. Time to fix it. . . . . . . . #practicemakespermanent #goodposture #viola #houseplants #musicianlife
Texas Region/All State Viola Etude: Mazas #47 measures 25-36—3 ways: QN=82, metronome free, and QN=63! . . . Fourth position got you down in the dumps? . .🎻🎻🎻🎻pro tip: practice scales in 4th position. Try this passage first in 1st position so you can hear the notes, then play in 4th. . Do your up-bow staccatos leave you feeling defeated? . So many ups!!! Try going slower and stopping your bow between each note. Make sure you give yourself enough bow to work with. Still have questions? I teach lessons in the Spring Branch area. . Email me!

Not tracking days at the moment—took a little social media break for a bit. Been reflecting on this next school year and season. Today I’m working on rep for solo/chamber recitals. The Clarke is scheduled for February 2020, but I would love to do something in the fall. In the Clarke, I’ve been focusing my attention on the last two movements. The first time I performed this Sonata, the second and third movements didn’t resonate with me. Trying to work on then more now with different ideas to see if I can understand them in a new way. . . . . #viola #clarkesonata #reflecting #practice
