Don’t want to run across this lady in a dark alley!! This is a female dobsonfly. It is impressive in size but will not bother you. Her offspring in the larvae form are great fishing bait. (Hellgrammites). They are typically found near water. They are beneficial insects that should be left alone. Great example why odorous house ants are so hard to get rid of. These are tramp ants and will pick up and move/split their colonies at the drop of a hat. This wood was stacked last week and this large colony has already moved in and made themselves a new home. Now they are off to another location or two.
