  • Today, Thursday, June 18, 2020, the Supreme Court ruled that the Trump administration cannot immediately proceed with its plan to end DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), an Obama-era program designed to protect nearly 700,000 young immigrants, known as Dreamers, from deportation while providing the ability to seek employment. In response to the recent decision, the Community College League of California released the following statement: The Community College League of California (League) applauds the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold DACA. California’s 2.2 million community college students include Dreamers, who are diligently pursuing postsecondary educational opportunities to support themselves, their families, their communities, and our state and nation. While the struggle to address systemic and institutional racism and economic inequality continues, the Court’s decisions on DACA and workplace discrimination for LGBTQ+ individuals are welcomed and needed advancements in civil rights. Regardless of immigration status or sexual orientation, the League is committed to serving all California Community College students in pursuit of higher education. #DefendDaca #HereisHome #Dreamers #CCCforDACA

  • Next, we have Kenneth Grossman, 2000 California Community College Distinguished Alumni Award Winner and @buttecollege alum.

Ken established Sierra Nevada back in 1980 when he first showed his friend the basics of homebrewing beer. He began brewing five-gallon batches of beer on his own and quickly became a proficient homebrewer. In 1976, Ken opened his own store, The Home Brew Shop, and, soon after, began building a small brewery in the town of Chico, California. Today, @sierranevada is considered one of the premier craft breweries in the United States.
