• *** BEFORE & AFTER ***

On Friday I showed you how I created the black/grey oxidised finish/patina on silver.

Here’s the before and after! Swipe for the 2nd one!

I have to thank @mywelshcastle for the before and after video effects!

I love the dark metal against the pop of 9ct gold - what do you think?

I can take this back to silver if I want to. If left oxidised, the finish is protected with Renaissance Wax.

Both rings are for sale! DM me for sizes and prices!

The weather was just glorious yesterday wasn’t it? Let’s hope for another one today!

We’ve got family and grandchildren coming over today!

The wood oven is bring fired up again for some pork which we’re having with homemade stuffing and apple sauce with lots of crackling! Homemade baps too! I can hear the bap debate starting! 😂😂😂

A poor man’s Porchetta sandwich!

Have an amazing day Insta lovelies!

  • *** ALL THAT GLITTERS TV ***

Who watched it last night? OMG, the pressure those jewellers were under! They did amazingly!

Kathryn was great, wasn’t she? Made me laugh!

Great to see some dome action which reminded me of this domed ruby ring I made back along.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the show - showcasing British jewellery makers - brilliant!

  • Good luck to my son & DIL on reopening their gym @pb_gym!
I wish all you ‘essentials’ a fab first day back!
Your customers and clients will be happy bunnies.
Just a reminder though, to be kind. They’ve all been closed for months. A few mistakes may occur.
Have an amazing week everyone!

  • *** IT’S MY SECOND INSTAGRAM BIRTHDAY! ***

Well, it’s the 2nd birthday of launching India & Albert on Instagram.

The reality is I started work in the business about six months before.

As many of you know, starting a business is a long and ongoing process. So many parts of running a business have little to do with whatever business you’re in.

I was already running two other businesses - my hypnotherapy business and my holistic clinic in Exeter. The plan was to spend six years building India & Albert to the point where it could support me as my retirement business.

I shut the clinic business down during the first Covid lockdown. This was a sad time as I saw 11 years work go down the pan.

Some of the practitioners who rented space had been with the clinic since it’s inception. Really sad.

I took my hypnotherapy business online using Zoom. This is still my main source of income even though it’s dropped considerably.

I felt very ‘headless chicken’ last year trying to work out survival strategies. This did impact negatively on my creativity and my mojo to some extent!

The last time I experienced something even remotely similar was in the aftermath of the twin towers. My business then was international leadership executive coaching. Many clients were US corporations and international travel was cancelled overnight along with their international development programmes. It took some years for the market and me to recover.

I gradually switched over to hypnotherapy to enable me to hang up my travelling boots. That transition took about 2-3 years.

Still, out of adversity comes opportunity. This horrible year has enabled me to give more time to India & Albert and to work exclusively from home - the one thing I’d always longed to do.

In some ways though, I feel I’ve wasted a year worrying and feeling ‘stuck’. It’s also a big learning curve transitioning from service to retail! Some days, if I’m honest, I doubt my ability to do this.

I have reinvested any income from India & Albert into new equipment and materials, new packaging etc and I’ve started promoting the bespoke commissions part of the business. This is really exciting for me! (Contd in comments

  • *** OXIDISED OR NOT? ***

I asked for people’s favourite finish on the salt and pepper diamond ring and oxidised black came out on top.

I do like to oxidise sometimes. It can be dark black or a more muted grey.

Here are some examples of past pieces I oxidised.

I’ll pop up a video of the process in the next few days.
