  • IT’S HAPPY HOUR! 🥂 And this week’s pairing is the watermelon lager and ivy. This crisp lager is another @deepriverbrewco new favorite of mine that provides a surprising, mild watermelon twist. I would consider it to be light bodied with minimal intensity, which makes for the perfect refresher on a hot summer day. Definitely would not recommend to anyone who does not enjoy fruit flavored beers as it is an acquired taste but would thoroughly recommend to those who enjoy beers with subtle flavors! Let’s talk about ivy friends. Ivy can either be sour or sweet. She’s incredibly beautiful when she is happy and thriving, and harshly difficult when she is not happy. In it’s natural habitat, ivy grows wildly in shade. Especially here in NC. When it’s brought inside as a houseplant, it’s requirements change. It needs to be placed in partial, indirect light and the soil needs to stay moist. Once the first 2” of soil are dry, you want to go ahead and water her again (2x a week is what I typically suggest). Ivy enjoys being misted on a regular basis and requires your typical organic houseplant fertilizer. Brown leaves are a sign of overwatering or a lack of humidity in the space. Acknowledging that there is a problem with the fact that 17% of the hate crimes committed in our country are geared towards the LGBTQ community… that’s the third highest rate of hate crimes aside from race and religion.   • It’s Happy Hour! 🥂 This week’s pairing is Twisted River Wit and the Ficus Audrey. The June beers I will be featuring all come from one of my favorite local wine and beer shops @pelagicbeer ! This week’s beer comes from @deepriverbrewco which is based in Clayton,NC. I have a thing for light wheats so this one got a pretty high ranking for me! It had an earthy aroma to it with a small tone of citrus/orange. Another good, all year around beer that I’d say would be the perfect pairing for a burger (or beyond burger) and fries! The Ficus Audrey, AKA Ficus Benghalensis, is the houseplant that I’m bragging about a lot these days. Sister to the Fiddle Leaf Fig, Audrey takes pride in being less maintenance than her sister. Although their light and watering needs are similar, Audrey seems to be a bit more forgiving to the plant parents if they are still getting the hang of her. Got behind on watering? Or didn’t put her in the exact lighting position she needs? She’s very likely to forgive you and move on!
