Once the coffees come out of the washing tanks, @longmilescoffee does something interesting. They bring the wet #coffee to a ‘pre-drying’ table which is underneath shade. This is for two distinct reasons:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1) Defective coffee or discolored coffee is much more apparent when wet.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2) If the high moisture #coffeebeans go directly into the intense #African sun, the bean’s parchment will actually begin to crack. There is a huge dependency on water to process coffee. However, not all have sufficient access and many face the challenge of water shortage or attempting to pump water to the wet mill machinery.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In this case, the young worker is helping to push the pulped #cherry skins down the water channel to its collection tank. Seeing children work and carrying coffee to a collection point never feels right. I think most of us would agree that our hope is for children to be surrounded by loved ones and that they are allowed to truly just be kids. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sadly, child labor is a reality in most producing countries.
