Toronto based artist @nue_ is highly fueled and inspired by the distinct creative energy that permeates his city. That's why we chose to work with him for our second installation of Knuckle Heads. The 22 year old has found a unique way to embody the melodic-based sound that is distinctly Toronto, while making it authentically his own. With calm vibes and warm electronics, @nue_ evokes an unfazed vibe, one that handles daily issues with no stress. Raised in a Jamaican household in multicultural Malvern, an area in the East Toronto city of Scarborough, he was exposed to many walks of life. Even though I was raised in the hood, my mom had me going to a school like 30 minutes away, so I grew up with a lot of upper class white kids, he explains. His early musical attachments ranged from conscious reggae to rock bands like Green Day and Slipknot. Despite all that, when he goes to record, he just creates whatever comes naturally, never forcing any particular influence to the surface. When I get in the studio, whatever comes out, comes out. I don't really think about it too much. In the end, it always comes back to Toronto. Even the name of his latest mixtape, Iroquois, is a reference to a park near his home where he discovered his sound and bonded with his homies. I want to make something that's true to myself. @nue_ is currently set to release his next project by end of the year and is definitely on our list of artists to watch.
