🔮🌵🎨 Back to basics, away from the computer, paint and paper in hand. Hot, slow afternoon. Uneven shade provided by a Joshua Tree. Sand between the toes of my bare feet. A bug lands on the burnt umber. Flowing with the watercolors that can’t quite be completely controlled. 🔮🌵🎨 High vibes in the high desert was just what I needed. I hope you find some moments of magic this weekend. And if you need a laugh, see what happened next in my stories. xo

GLOWY CELERY JUICE HACKS 🌱🌱🌱 It’s PMS time over here and I’ve been experimenting with anti-inflammatory practices to keep the pain away. One trick that worked like a charm last month was having some celery juice each morning (on an empty stomach, about 30 minutes before eating) the week leading up to and during my period. But if you’ve ever tried it, you know how time consuming making fresh celery juice can be. Here are my hacks: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ‣ wash and cut up celery the night before ‣ use a blender instead of a juicer for quicker clean up! I blend mine until it starts to get kind of liquid-y (you might need the help of your tamper with a Vitamix or little water if your blender seems to be struggling), pour into a nut milk bag then milk the celery cow until the pulp is dry. ‣ I know you’re supposed to drink it immediately, but I cheat and save half for the next morning. Shhhh, don’t tell. To me, it’s better than not doing it at all. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Oh and my last tip for you: start slow. Celery juice is POWERFUL and cleans you out, you know. So start with 4oz and go up from there. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌱🌱🌱Try it out during your next cycle! If it helps, yay! If it’s not a fit for you, who cares! Take what you need from wellness and leave the rest behind.🌱🌱🌱
JUNETEENTH ✨✨✨ “Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation - which had become official January 1, 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation had little impact on the Texans due to the minimal number of Union troops to enforce the new Executive Order. However, with the surrender of General Lee in April of 1865, and the arrival of General Granger’s regiment, the forces were finally strong enough to influence and overcome the resistance.” (reference: juneteenth.com) _____ Here is an invitation for some education, and action items you can take today to celebrate (links in bio): _____ ‣ listen: the @nytimes podcast “1619” about the history of slavery in America (it’s so informative, I can’t recommend it enough) ‣ watch: “Harriet Tubman - They Called Her Moses” on Amazon Prime (she was a real boss) ‣ read: “What is Juneteenth” on @pbs ‣ sign: the @changedotorg petition “Make Juneteenth a National Holiday in 2020“ _____ Together we can make a difference.
