Students are demanding change at USC, starting with the renaming of buildings on campus. Twenty-five student leaders created a list of demands called 2020 Revision, which was presented at last week’s board of trustees meeting. USC student Lauryn Workman also helped start a petition called Dismantle Racism at UofSC. “I think that USC has the capacity to change. We’re in this big moment right now, and we have a new president,” Workman said. We can definitely make changes, and we should, because we want to be on the right side of history. We stand in solidarity with the black community. Objectivity on racism is complicity. We reject racism and police brutality in all of its many forms and stand in solidarity with the black lives who continue to face prejudice and aggression in innumerable ways. As a paper, it is our duty to show hate where there is hate and to hold both our university and our community accountable for the actions they take. Sean Powers, a 2019 USC alumnus, opened a new coffee shop near the riverfront. “This location, specifically, is fantastic. It’s right by the riverfront, Powers said. “To me, the river is a really important part of Columbia and is really central to it.” Click the link in our bio for the full story. 📸: @hollypoag
