COMPLETE THE CENSUS TODAY The U.S. Census Bureau is looking to have all data collected by September 30, which is used to determine federal funding for the next 10 years and the distribution of political representation. Census in-person employees, or enumerators, are local residents who have been hired and trained to interview residents and capture a more accurate count for the decennial census. Enumerators will follow up with households who have not yet completed the 2020 Census online, over the phone or through mail, and will carry a valid ID badge with their photograph, a U.S. Department of Commerce watermark and an expiration date. While enumerators will wear a mask and have completed a virtual COVID-19 training on social distancing and other health and safety protocols before beginning their work in neighborhoods, residents can minimize the chance of an in-person visit by quickly responding to the census online, over the phone or by mail. The 2020 Census is open to all households to complete on line at https://2020CENSUS.GOV, over the phone by calling 844-330-2020 or 844-468-2020 for Spanish, and by paper through the mail. #azcounts

SEPT. 3rd SEWER SPILL UPDATE Water quality counts taken between 8:40 and 10:01 a.m. on Sept. 2, 2020 show E.coli levels at all test sites remain below the state and federal water quality E.coli limit of 235 Colony Forming Units (CFU)/100mL of water for recreational swimming. After one month of testing, with most results consistently under the 235 (CFU)/100mL threshold, the city will no longer give E. coli test result updates. The city will meet with stakeholders including representatives from Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, Oak Creek Watershed Council, Arizona State Parks, agriculture and others in the coming weeks to review all components of the incident and amend protocols that need to be updated. NEW ROUNDABOUT ART As part of the Uptown Roadway Improvements Project, "Eagle Dancers" by Reagan Word was installed at both the Jordan Road and Owenby Way roundabouts on 89A. Take a look at the finished product -- a perfect way to punctuate the project. A snippet of the artist's statement on the sculpture says: "In Uptown Sedona we have two eagle dancer sculptures by Reagan Word. Eagle Dancer - North is listening to spirit, depicted as a descending flight of birds. She directs these inspirations to Eagle Dancer - South, who sends prayers aloft. Spirit answers showering blessings below. The gabions and panels symbolize the earth and water that receive this nourishment for our beautiful community. Let us remember that we are each part of the balance of nature, giving and receiving as stewards of the earth."

AUG. 27th SEWER SPILL UPDATE Water quality counts taken between 7:55 and 9:02 a.m. on Aug. 26, 2020 show E.coli levels at all but one of the test sites remain below the state and federal water quality E.coli limit of 235 Colony Forming Units (CFU)/100mL of water for recreational swimming. It takes approximately 24 hours to receive test results, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) 235 CFU/100 mL Beach Action Value (BAV) of water limit is a surface water quality standard specific to E. coli set to protect public health. In alignment with Arizona Department of Environmental Quality’s (ADEQ) assessment that the sewage from the spill has long-since passed, it is unlikely that any spikes in E. coli results, like the one on Aug. 26, 2020 at Red Rock Crossing, are related to the sewer spill. NO SEWER SPILL THIS MORNING To clear up any rumors, there was NO sewer spill this morning related to the SR179 Sewer Main Replacement Project. The contractor was washing the roadway this morning, which is where the water on the road came from. The screens that are placed in front of storm drains on 179 are part of the contractor's Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan. They are intended to catch sediment and roadway debris (trash, etc.) from storm water runoff to prevent it from entering the storm drains. For up-to-date information on the project call the project hotline at (928) 852-4164 or subscribe to email updates by sending an email to news@sr179sewermainreplacement.com.

REOPENING STEPS FOR PAUSED BUSINESSES Arizona Governor Doug Ducey announced that businesses previously required to pause operations may fill out a form to reopen in certain capacities in qualifying counties. Because Yavapai County currently qualifies as a county with moderate transmission by the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), gyms, movie theaters, and bars that have a food permit may reopen by filling out an attestation form stating they are in compliance with ADHS mitigation requirements for businesses. Along with filling out the attestation form, reopening businesses must follow the occupancy listed in this moderate transmission benchmark chart. Important: Coconino County currently qualifies as a county with substantial community transmission, therefore the businesses required to previously pause operations must remain closed.
