Our upper school art students have the opportunity to choose from a variety of classes at different levels, including three AP courses. The AP requirement is to produce a sustained investigation by selecting an idea to focus on for the entire year. Students then create a body of work around that idea. We are so impressed by the highly refined skills and creativity that our art students develop throughout their years at TSS. Our AP students are taught by Mrs. Wood, who is also an AP Reader with responsibility for grading AP art portfolios from other students across the country. A role which gives her an opportunity to gain insights and ideas to enrich her classes at The Salisbury School. #godragons🐉

In 5th through 8th grade art, TSS students continue to use the elements and principles of art while exploring drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, and printmaking each year. Students also focus on large-scale projects for Global Awareness Day. This year the fifth graders chose paintings by English artist Gillian Ayres as inspiration. The middle school GAD project choices were embroidery, wood carved dragons, paintings after David Hockney, or functional clay teapots. Thank you to our art teachers for their instruction, guidance, and support as each student develops their skills year on year.#godragons🐉

This week we will be featuring our awesome art department. In pre-K 3 through 4th grade, the focus is on the exploration of art materials and processes, and exposure to art elements and principles. Projects often connect with literature being read in language arts or integrate with themes being studied across the curriculum. Self expression, collaboration, problem-solving, and creativity are celebrated. Be on the look out for more posts later this week showing how these foundational skills blossom in middle and upper school.#godragons🐉

Sixth-grade science has been learning about our solar system and galaxy. To gain a better understanding of the distances between planets and the sun, the students used scaled models of the planets and measured proportionate distances between them until they reached Neptune. Once they were almost 600 feet away they could look back to try to find Earth which was the size of a very small dot! Students finished the unit by creating children's books, travel brochures, or astronaut diaries which detailed the facts they had learned over the course of study and reading their books to the Kindergarten class. Great job, everyone!

DID YOU KNOW - TSS has the most unique graduation ceremony on the Eastern Shore? The class heard from different types of engineers, real estate developers, a nurse, and a policeman, and learned about what equipment they use and what they do in their jobs every day. They even got to see inside a police car and hear the siren up close! Thank you to all the parents who came in to share with the class today!#godragons🐉

Congratulations to senior Maddy Kiesewetter on being awarded a 2021 Eastern Shore Running Club scholarship. Applicants must have a reputation of good character, be a well-rounded citizen and participate on an organized track and/or cross-country team. Maddy served as captain of our women’s cross country team for the 2020 season, and helped her team win first place in the ESIAC championship race for the first time in school history. Great job, Maddie, we are so proud of you! #godragons🐉 #easternshorerunningclub

Even though we weren't able to celebrate Grandparents Day today, our students still wanted to share their love with their grandparents by creating cards and gifts to send home. Classes were able to continue with some Grandparents Day traditions too, such as Mystery Day in 3rd grade and Readers Theater in 2nd. Happy Grandparents Day! We hope we can have you in school with us next year for this special day!#grandparentsday #godragons🐉

Third grade Spanish have been learning food and restaurant vocabulary this month. The class created their own outdoor restaurant where they were able to practice giving and taking orders from a menu and paying for their meals. Muchas gracias to Sra. Townsend for giving our students this real life experience to use their foreign language skills and providing such a delicious feast for her students!#spanishlessons #godragons

What a week we had! Thank you all so much for your generosity to TSS and to the staff bonus fund match during Participation Week. Shout out to 4th, 5th and 11th grades who all had over 75% of class families participate this week. We are so grateful for everything our community does to make TSS such a special place. Thank you.#godragons🐉
