Charles prepares for double quarantine... I’m officially COVID negative after a COVID blood test today, to make international travel easier. (I had zippo symptoms.) I’m heading back to Canada to visit an unwell family member. This requires 14 days in Canadian quarantine, one week with family, then another 15 days in Hong Kong quarantine. But due to the much higher risk of #CoronaVirus in Canada, the Hong Kong quarantine won’t be with family. The last 24 hours has been all about planning out what I need for the next 5-6 weeks... how many and what type of clothes, what will I do while in quarantine (Answer: mostly work). And of course one needs tech, really good tech. After years of of wondering what it would be like to have a huge break... get away from it all, have solitude, the Lord has just said, “Yeah, I can arrange that!” So stay tuned... #Throwback 2019 ... the latest running news from yours truly was Hong Kong’s Southern Beach District Run on 15 December. Six days after my 10K, I ran Race 3 of the #ReservoirSeries - the Tai Tam Reservoir, a gruelling hilly 11K. Sadly, I was 7 seconds slower than last year yet felt terrific during and post-run. BUT, the next day after carefully nursing my muscles, I ran a record breaking 5K in 25:16 - my fastest 5K since the early 90s running with @kingarthur1952 and gang. How and why is this happening? Not just training and stretching: it’s weight loss. Since early November, thanks to #Noom, I’ve dropped 11+ pounds. For the first time ever, I’m heading into January lighter than exiting December. With the cough gone, leg repaired and lots and lots of stretching, 8 Dec saw me claim my fastest 10K in over a Quarter Century: 57:17, knocking over a minute off my previous HK best. Even better, I ran the second half faster than the first half. One of the ways my family celebrates regular gratefulness and kindness is through our “Grateful Thankful Jar” and “Random Acts of Kindness Jar.” Anytime one of us does, sees or hears of, kindness or gratitude connected to the family, we write it down and place it in one of the jars. I’m grateful that my family embraces this idea and unsolicited makes additions.
