I never really thought birthdays were a big deal. The concept seemed kind of pointless to me really. Ok, I’ll give you birthdays 1-10, 13, 18, 21, and every decade after that… all 7.8 billion of us in the world has a birthday, you’re not special. _ However, witnessing Eleanor’s birth day and her transition into this world was a transformative experience of emotion and wonder. This little being that wasn’t before, was in one breath a conscious, independent, citizen of earth. And soon (like really soon!) our second daughter, Josephine, will take her first breath. There is a special thank you that should be given to the Mom’s out there on your birthday. Growing a human inside of your own body is no fucking joke, then that little person has to come out eventually… Let’s just be thankful men don’t have to give birth because let’s be honest, we’re not up for it. So thank you to my wonderful mother for giving me a birthday and to my beautiful wife for making me a father. Side note: If you want to see some mind boggling statistics just google “world population clock”.
