• Folks have commented that I incorporate a lot of nature into my photos. ✨ It’s never been intentional, necessarily. It’s just always been a part of me. ✨ I credit much of that to my momma, who would always make the monotonous daily country drives an adventure. She always told me to look for the “big water” (rivers, lakes, occasionally oceans). ✨ I think it just runs in my blood. ✨ It’s only been in the past few years I’ve noticed that I can make art with the art that already exists, and I wish I could clearly express how much it has changed the way I see the everyday world. ✨

  • It’s #thlsustainablesundays so let’s chat about home decor, ya know, since we’re all spending an abundant amount of time at home right now: 🍃 I was extremely blessed with a family who has incredible taste in furniture and I somehow wound up with some really good stuff of theirs. ✨ Fortunately, the only things Austin and I have actually had to purchase was this amazing old school cubby we turned into a book shelf that we found at an antique shop in Louisville, his desk, and our mattress (the only thing we’ve bought “new”). We really like giving old stuff a good home. It also gives our space a comfy vibe and lots of stories to tell. ✨ And then there’s the art around the house. Every. Single. Piece. in our home has a story to tell. I only collect two things (in moderation) from around the world when I travel: local art and hand thrown ceramic mugs. So, if you ever come for a visit, anything you point to will have a story I’m happy to tell. 💕 ✨ I don’t want to live in a trendy place that looks like it all came out of a catalog; I want my home to be a direct reflection of our life. ✨ Lastly, let’s talk about plants. Fake plants are a waste of materials and they just collect dust. Invest in good plants. They’re worth it. They’ll become a part of your home you couldn’t imagine living in without. Plant babies bring so much joy and will make you proud over time. Besides, do you really wanna decorate your house in plastic? No. 🍃 So here are my win and loss for the week: ✨ Win: only had takeout once last week and it was from our favorite neighborhood vegetarian restaurant who only uses compostable to-go containers (all of their materials in-house are actually compostable or 100% recyclable). Felt good to give them some business and have a little date night at home. ✨ Loss: had to throw out some produce that went bad. Stilllll haven’t gotten a compost even though I’ve talked about it for over a year. 🤦🏼‍♀️ ✨ Your turn! What have been your wins and losses during your quarantine time? 👇🏼

  • I want to tell you about my favorite book. . It’s so difficult for me to ever say with conviction that anything is my very favorite (besides @austincurrent_ 😘). . But this book right here, I felt like it was written for me. It certainly was not, but it hit me h a r d in the soul in all the right ways. I read it during my last trip to Australia, where I honestly feel most at home, so my love for this book is also tied to my most recent memories in my most favorite of places. . This story, To Shake The Sleeping Self, is about Nashville’s own @jedidiahjenkins journey from Oregon to Patagonia on his bicycle. YES, HIS BICYCLE. He wasn’t previously a cyclist but he felt a calling. . For my fellow truly adventurous souls, this one’s for you. . Some reasons I love it so much: . ✨Culturally, I understand Jed’s references to the Bible Belt — from being brought up in it to taking a more critical look at it when you’ve been removed for so long. His reflections on his Tennessee home during his trip really resonated with me. . ✨I understand his deep yearning for a new challenge you couldn’t possibly fathom when it’s simply still a dream. . ✨His language and tone throughout the book is nothing short of lyrical. . ✨The descriptions of landscapes, people, and new cultures make you want to book an immediate flight to all of the Americas’ west coasts. . ✨You can almost physically feel his exhaustion throughout the book, from riding and writing. . If you zoom in, you can see where I’ve underlined “Knowledge alone is like an unearned memory, mostly forgotten.” This is one of the most profound statements I’ve ever read. . It sinks deep into the bones of the young woman who never felt book smart, but quickly learned after creating a fair amount of memories ‘round the world that intelligence has many faces. .   • I’ve told this story so many times, but I feel like telling it again. ✨ When I first met Austin, we were living in England (he was studying, I was interning) and I wanted n o t h i n g to do with him. ✨ I saw a pretty boy meathead checking me out from head to toe from across a gravel driveway and I thought…N O P E. Not today, Satan. ✨ And for nearly two months, I barely gave him the time of day. He was kind and tried to start conversations; I was short and to-the-point with a swift exit every time. ✨ I thought I knew guys like him, but really I just knew guys who looked like him. ✨ All it took was one conversation on a quick flight to Ireland. I had my earbuds in my hand ready to listen to music. He said it was his goal not to let me put them in. Forty-five minutes later I knew my world just got flipped on its head. It was the first time I realized this guy had depth — more than I could’ve ever imagined. ✨ The looks I gave him rapidly changed. I went from little eye contact to smiling with my whole face and wishing him well on his weekend travels around Europe. Meanwhile, I was already plotting in my head how I’d reach out to him at a more “appropriate” time. ✨ About a year and a half later we were married and living in Australia. ✨ Funny how things work out. ✨ Thanks for loving me so well.
