Beating the Winter Blues. The winter months hit hard for all of us. The sun sets early in the evening and rises late in the morning, it’s cold outside, it’s dark and gloomy most days, and well shovelling snow just sucks. Here are some tips to help you survive the winter months! 1. Don’t fight it - rest & hibernate (go to bed early, Netflix binges, say no to too many activities/making other people happy instead of yourself, take days off) LISTEN to your body. 2. Exercise - physical activity helps to release endorphins that helps to enhance mood and reduce your perception of pain. Find an activity you enjoy, even if it is moving your body for 30 minutes a day! Any form of activity helps during the winter months. 3. Create a morning routine - something that can get you up each morning and excited for the day. Whether that is journaling, reading a book, learning something new or physical activity. Find something that works for you. 4. Warm foods - soups, crock pots, etc. 5. Go outside to get sun and fresh air - ice skating, walks, skiing, sledding, Christmas markets with friends and family, etc. 6. Go out to comedy shows or the movies - humour and laughter strengthens your immune system, boosts your energy, diminishes pain, and protects you from the damaging effects of stress. It helps to trigger the release of endorphins. 7. Sex - people don’t always like to talk about it but it helps with the winter blue mood swings. . . .
