A huge well done to Cora Sheridan one of our 1st Year students, whose passion for wildlife and conservation recently led to the installation of swift nest boxes around the school grounds 🐦
After raising over €120 through fundraising, Cora organised the installation of the boxes to help support local swift populations, which are increasingly losing their traditional nesting spaces due to modern building design.
Swifts are remarkable birds, spending almost their entire lives in flight and travelling enormous distances during their lifetime. The new nest boxes, installed high under the eaves of the school, will provide safe nesting spaces for years to come.
A fantastic initiative and a wonderful example of student leadership and environmental awareness 🌍👏

A huge congratulations to our TY students who recently received the Platinum Award in the Secondary School Transformational Category at the DCU Intergenerational Solidarity Awards 👏
The awards, organised by Dublin City University, recognise projects that promote meaningful connections between generations and within the wider community.
As part of their project, the students worked with the Galway Active Retirement Association through an intergenerational programme where they supported members with technology while also learning from their experiences and stories.
The group also organised swimming activities with students from Scoil Éinde and Galway Educate Together National School, coached 1st and 2nd Year hockey training, and prepared goodie bags for 3rd and 6th Year students during mock exams.
Well done to all the students involved on this fantastic achievement.
A big thank you to Mr. Drea for all his help and support in facilitating all the activities, helping with the award submission and for all his work with TY's during the year. Thanks also to all the other teachers and staff members who were involved in the various projects.

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade - TravelWise
COMMUNICATION: TravelWise (the Department of Foreign Affairs official travel advice service) messages and guidance
As you are undoubtedly aware, with the summer holidays fast approaching, many of your students will soon travel abroad. We are conscious that for many of these students, in particular those celebrating the end of their Leaving Certificate exams, this may be their first time travelling overseas alone or without family. While this is an exciting time, with new adventures ahead, it is also a time where the right travel preparation can ensure students Make the Right Memories this summer. In a context of increasing global instability and changing travel environments, with students choosing to travel further afield, such preparation is more important than ever.
On Friday, 22 May, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Helen McEntee T.D., will launch the Department’s annual Make the Right Memories summer travel campaign to coincide with the European Day of Safe Travel Abroad. Our summer campaign focuses on helping young travellers prepare for and stay safe, informed, and connected while travelling overseas.
As part of this outreach, we have developed a simple and practical TravelWise Tip Card, which is attached. The card, attached in both Irish and English, highlights six key travel tips:
Check your passport validity.
Get comprehensive travel insurance.
Ensure your EHIC is up to date.
Check our official travel advice.
Know how our Embassies/Consulates can help.
Register your contact details with us.
Each travel tip links directly to our official online TravelWise guidance/information pages and our travel advice for over 200 countries and territories, including for Spain, Portugal, and Greece, destinations where many of your students will visit this summer. For more on our travel advice, please visit us at Overseas Travel | Department Of Foreign Affairs | Ireland.ie | Ireland.ie

IMPORTANT - Bus Eireann School Transport for School Year 26-27
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Department of Education and the School Transport Office have asked to pass on this message to you.
This is a reminder to parents and guardians of the deadline of Friday, 8 May 2026 for payment, registration and to enter medical card details for the School Transport Scheme for the 2026/2027 school year.
Who needs to apply?
Applications are required for students who are new to the scheme, starting junior infants or first year, changing school or address.
Families who have previously applied do not need to reapply unless details have changed, but must log-in to complete payment or submit medical card details.
In order to fully integrate all pupils using mainstream school transport, all pupils who have arrived in Ireland from Ukraine and all pupils residing in IPAS/EROC centres are required to apply for mainstream school transport by the deadline date of 8 May also. This will mean that all families, living in accommodation centres, IPAS centres, modular homes, with host families, and living independently, should now apply on the Bus Éireann family portal.
School transport continues to be free of charge for all eligible families with a medical card who apply and enter details by the closing date. It is important that new applications are received as soon as possible for students who are new to the scheme for children with special educational needs (SEN), starting junior infants or first year, changing school or address.
Parents should be advised that late applications or payments may result in a ticket not being available, and that late applicants will not be considered for the Remote Area Grant for the 2026/2027 school year.
Further information on how to apply and fees are available here.

Nominations for Mayors Awards
A huge well done to TY student Saoirse Wade and 3rd year student Molly Mahon, who have been shortlisted for a Mayor’s Award, with the winners being announced tomorrow night.
Even being nominated is a fantastic achievement, and it is wonderful to see their dedication recognised.
Saoirse and Molly are two of four young volunteers from Liam Mellows Hurling and Camogie Club (alongside Áine Kelly and Sophie Corbett) nominated for the Junior Volunteer of the Year Award. Through their coaching, refereeing, and commitment to promoting hurling and camogie, they give an incredible amount of time and energy to their club and community.
Molly coaches the U8 and U9 Camogie teams, referees matches, and serves as a role model to younger girls and boys in the club through her skill, dedication, and sportsmanship. She also represents Galway on the field, showing younger players what can be achieved through hard work and passion. Saoirse coaches the tots, assist with the U8 boys, and referee, ensuring the youngest members of the club have fun while learning the sport. All four of the girls also play for the under-16 team, balancing their own commitments while giving back to the club.
Their contribution goes far beyond the pitch, helping with GoGames, Cúl Camps, and club events, and making a real difference to young players across Galway City.
We are very proud of Saoirse and Molly and wish them the very best of luck on the night.

Upcoming Visit: Past Pupil Chloe Lawlor (Exoplanet Discovery)
We’re looking forward to welcoming Chloe Lawlor back to Dominican College, next week on Friday, May 1st!
You may have seen the recent news about Chloe leading the discovery of a new exoplanet, WISPIT 2c, while completing her PhD at @universityofgalway.
Chloe will be visiting us to chat with current students about her research, her career path, and what it’s like to find a new world 430 light-years away.
It’s a great chance for our students to see where a passion for STEM can lead.
