Coffee & COVID: Emerson Casey pours a latte into a to-go cup at @hubcoffeeroasters on Riverside Drive in Reno on June 12. . Once Nevada shut down business in mid-March, The Hub’s owner, Mark Trujillo, said revenue tumbled 60% compared to last year. Months later, with a 50% capacity allowed during Phase 2 of the state’s reopening plan, the Hub’s sales have largely remain unchanged, he said, still looking at 50% declines. . It’s the same case with other local roasters (we also spoke with @coffeebar) as well, as the local coffee industry attempts to stir interest and stay afloat during a new era of doing business. . Last week, the NNBW’s @kaleb_ray took a tour of the 342,000-square-foot @patagonia distribution center in west Reno, which first reopened with just 50 employees on April 13. . Two months later, the distribution center — which typically employs between 400-500 people, depending on time of year — has brought back 225 employees. . Before coming to work, each of those employees must enter a room where a thermal scanner takes their temperature. Once inside the warehouse, staff must wear masks and gloves at all times, and stay at least 10 feet away from others. .
