We are super excited to open the doors to my gallery again on Wednesday 2nd December, 10am to 5pm! Yippee!!! Joanna May Gallery, 16 Northgate Street, Devizes, Wiltshire SN10 1JL. I really can't wait to see you all again, I've missed not seeing my wonderful customers! Isn't it just the best when you meet like-minded people! There is something so special about having your own business and you know when that person walks through the door it is because something they have seen in the window has inspired them to come in. I love engaging with my customers it really is one of most favourite past times, not work at all… Isn't that also what it is all about, when work doesn't feel like work! The good news is we will now be open right through to Christmas with only Sunday's closed. We hope this will be easier for you to come and buy that unique Christmas gift, if it's a book, a piece of sculpture, a print or an original! We look forward to seeing you very soon x Or if you would prefer to order online just go to www.joannamay.com

''When looking at your two paws as soon as you've decided which of them is your right one then you can be sure the other one is your left''… I love this quote from AA Milnes Winnie the Pooh and it inspired my painting of the Moon Bear in 'Two Paws' below… Moon Bears are tortured for the production of their bile, it really is the cruelest thing and when I heard what we do to them I was distraught, so and I produced this painting along with others and held a show, in Henley on Thames in 2013, to raise money to rescue them. In the series of paintings I produced my aim was to cover our bears in gold and flowers in a Klimt like style, to worship and celebrate them the way they deserve! This is the rest of the meaning in the painting below… The writing on the golden crescent moon translates as ‘Black Bear’ in Chinese. The Chinese symbol for black looks like a cage, but it also looks like an empty one, which symbolizes ‘Freedom for the Bears’. Inspired by AA Milne’s Winnie the Pooh, my aim was to connect to our childhood nostalgia and love of bears by adding the writing around the crescent moon which says... “When looking at your two paws, as soon as you have decided which of them is your right one then you can be sure the other one is your left”. The flowers and leaves are herbs. There are approximately 65 herbs and flowers that can be used as alternatives to bear bile extraction. In this painting I have selected six of the best known to us including honeysuckle, dandelion, viola, chrysanthemum, patrinia, mulberry leaf along with the Sea-ear shell... They can be used for medicinal purposes instead of the unacceptable cruelty of bile extraction for the Chinese medicine market. Prints can be bought from £390 from my website www.joannamay.com Please remember our beautiful bears in the wild and how precious they are... Bears and all animals are not commodities to the human race!!!

Feeling Lucky!!! Lucky 🍀 to be able to do in life my true passion, art… Lucky 🍀 that it seems to bring me wonderful clients and friendships… Lucky 🍀 that I am making a living out of what I love ❤️ to do most… And lucky 🍀 that I am loving 🥰 Instagram and Facebook and the incredible people I get to connect to through it… ❤️ What a truly amazing tool it is when you put some time into learning it… It really has surprised me and excites me every day with its endless possibilities… I did my first live talk on Wednesday, last week, to raise money for the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust by talking about selling my treasure hunt book 'The Hare on the Moon'. I discovered I really enjoyed it and, especially, the feedback I got from some of my new and old connections on here. The words of encouragement meant a huge amount! 💋Thank you 🙏To everyone that joined, sent messages, hearts and words of encouragement, during and afterwards, you know who you are!!! ❤️ I also did my first live sale on Saturday, whoop, whoop! I had no idea how it would go, since I only sent a message out the day before, it was completely experimental. A way to connect with my clients during lockdown when the gallery is shut. It worked so well, amazing me the way clients connect up and buy. The power of today's technology can blow your mind sometimes!!! I will post up the live IGTV on here, in the next few days, so you can enjoy a tour of my work at leisure, whenever you want to. Here's wishing all my wonderful followers a great week ahead!!! Xoxox Today I just wanted to appreciate 🙏it all fully and not take it for granted. www.joannamay.com
