• Wow...Several years ago when I was starting my health journey I thought it had to look a certain way. I thought I had to eat "clean", exercise hard and have the willpower to give up any "bad" vices and behaviors. ⁠

After going that route for a few years, and several emotional breakdowns, shame and bingeing, I found flexible dieting. It was the beginning of looking at health and fitness in a much more balanced way. ⁠

Things have changed so much for me! ⁠
⁠
❌ Then: pulling meal plans out of magazines hoping to find the right combination of food to "be o.k."⁠
✅ Now: eating food comfortably enjoying exactly what I want⁠
⁠
❌ Then: freaking out about holidays and meals with my family - bringing my own chicken and broccoli in a container with me everywhere⁠
✅ Now: Eating all the holiday fixins' (including mom's cheesecake) and not feeling horrible or guilty or worried about "working it off" later⁠
⁠
❌ Then: Thinking that certain foods were "bad" and trying to avoid them. ⁠
✅ Now: Enjoying a variety of foods that are all good :-)⁠
⁠

It conjures up images of a very young and stupid version of myself that would try detoxes and cleanses.⁠

Remember the Master Cleanse? I tried that when I was young and stupid and. You mix a disgusting drink with lemon juice, maple syrup and some other gross ingredients and drink only that for a week. I lasted 4 hours on Day 1 before I almost passed out. ⁠

This can be said of MOST diets I tried.⁠
⁠
They made me feel: ⁠

❌ Less than⁠
❌ Frustrated⁠

So that's why I follow a much more flexible approach. Now I feel: ⁠
