If you spend most of the time you think about money beating yourself up about it, it's going to be hard to build a good relationship with it. Thanks for the question @wangarific How would you respond? 👇🏼

This gem from @farnooshtorabi in episode 5 of the Money Confidential podcast, 'I make more money than my boyfriend, how can we be financial equals?', is exactly why I hate the phrase, ‘Charge what you're worth.'⠀ ⠀ Because your salary is not a reflection of your self-worth 📢 ⠀ And if you’ve internalized the idea that your time is worth more or less than your partner because of what you earn, it’s not going to be good for the relationship (or for you!)⠀ ⠀ Tune into this latest episode of Money Confidential @real_simple for more from @farnooshtorabi (and yours truly) by searching for Money Confidential wherever you listen to podcasts. I don’t have personal interest in FIRE (financial independence retire early) just as I don’t have personal interest in extreme couponing. If either of those work for you, that’s great. But if they don’t? That’s fine too. Find your own flavor of financial lifestyle that does. Even if it means creating your own.

Access doesn't equal acceptance 😔 While more and more women are becoming primary earners and financial decision makers in their relationships, they still face social penalties for their financial success. ⠀ For example, when women have career success, it’s common for their romantic relationships to suffer. A 2019 study found that male stress levels rise if a female partner earns more than 40 percent of the household income. ⠀ ⠀ According to the study’s lead, men interpret a partner’s success as their own failure, and this bruised ego effect has a lasting, negative impact on the relationship. ⠀ ⠀ For ambitious women, financial and career success often means taking on emotional labor to save their relationships. ⠀ ⠀ This weeks' episode of Money Confidential featuring expert @farnooshtorabi is all about navigating the complicated dynamics of unequal incomes in a relationship - especially when they upend 'traditional' gender roles. ⠀ ⠀ Check it out by searching for 'Money Confidential' wherever you listen to podcasts (link in bio @stefanieoconnell 👈🏼)⠀
