Torres traditional green has mutated! The new brown/orange/ red scheme may be highly infectious. And - I’ve grown quite fond of these little wormholes on the back, but I suppose they have to get filled. #herringbone #wormholes #torresguitar #handmadeuk #classicalguitar #rosewood #woodworking #luthiersofinstagram #madeinlondon

Off we go again, another small Torres, hazel spruce top. @guitarmakingcourse method to fit rosette - fit components, tape together, remove, add glue, fit, remove tape. Very quick! #guitar #torresguitar #handmade #woodworking #classicalguitar #hazelspruce #bearclaw #tonewood #responsiveguitar #indianrosewood #luthiersofinstagram #madeinlondon

A-style mandolin up and running. Don’t know how the Red Henry 6 hole bridge affects the sound, but it’s loud! My dad restored a Victorian mahogany four-leaf dining table in 1969, but left one leaf in original condition, in his garage. I have enough to make two more. Might post some sounds when I’ve learnt a bit more about playing it. Nice plain tailpiece from gluedtomusic.com. #mandolin #gibsonmandolin #handmade #woodwork #mahoganytable #luthier #luthiersofinstagram #madeinlondon

A-style mandolin starting to look proper. Ancient Cuban mahogany really glowing. On Planet Mandolin, which new to me, there’s a legend called Red Henry who makes and compares hundreds of bridges. Here’s one of his designs with the added slot-in saddle. #cubanmahogany #gibsonmandolin #redhenry #luthier #woodworking #handmade #madeinlondon #luthiersofinstagram #carvedtop

Finally got some daylight for photographing. This bit of eye candy sounds good too - F body resonance, so rich bass, and sweet trebles too. Based on one of Torres’ last guitars. #classicalguitar #torresguitar #handmade #woodworking #guitarmaker #luthiersofinstagram #madeinlondon #flamemaple

Second lockdown project. Two guitars all buffed up and nowhere to go, so I’m stretching the brain with a Gibson A style mandolin. Fitting the rosette in an oval hole with varying heights was challenging. Turned out ok, a couple of fluffy fluffy edges. Cutting the dovetail was weird, with all the various angles and the decorative top block. Next time will abandon authenticity - cut the nose off and butt/bolt it. Lovely spruce wedges from guitarwoods4luthiers. Very old Cuban mahogany table top for back and sides.
