In Year 5, we have been learning how to weave! We looked at the history of weaving and studied two artists, Andy Goldsworthy and Maximo Laura, looking at how they use weaving in their artwork. Then we learnt a range of weaving techniques using thread and a loom. They have designed their final weaving pieces inspired by their geography work on North America.

Year 6 had a fabulous day this week immersing themselves in all things WW2. We loved seeing them all dressed up - there were some outstanding costumes.
They sung songs; created Blitz art; learnt about code breaking and produced propaganda posters. They also learnt how to respond to an air raid siren!

Y6 Redwood were working very hard today during their English lessons. They have been learning about evacuation during their History topic of World War Two and are now applying this knowledge to write non-chronological texts based on evacuation. This includes formal tone, historical vocabulary, parenthesis and passive voice. Shared writing today gave them the confidence to apply all of this learning into one introduction. It was a joy to see the collaboration between the groups!

During practical maths lessons, Cedar have been exploring capacity. We were shocked to see how container shape and size do not change the amount of liquid and yet, the liquid can appear to be greater or smaller.

This morning, Year 6 had the pleasure of watching @kwschoolharpenden dress rehearsal of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
We were blown away by the outstanding singing, spectacular dancing and the high quality of the acting throughout. It was also especially lovely to see so many former Grove pupils treading the boards with such confidence and talent.
This fresh and imaginative take on a Shakespeare classic, with songs and dances bringing it right up to date, ensured that every audience member left with a smile on their face.
The first performance is tonight, so, from everyone in Year 6 at The Grove, break a leg! 🎭✨
