Year 4 had a fantastic time at Stanborough Lakes last week, after the heatwave delayed their original date.
@stanboroughpark.welwyn
There was a real buzz of excitement in the air as Magnolia, Cedar and Linden enjoyed an action-packed day of water sports. The children took part in a range of fantastic activities, including kayaking around the lake while competing to catch the most floating animals and working together to build their own rafts before testing them out on the water. Luckily, there was no capsizing or sinking to be seen!
The Year 4 team also had the opportunity to take part in stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). Some children navigated around the lake on a giant SUP that could hold up to ten children at once, requiring fantastic teamwork, balance and communication skills.
It was wonderful to see the children challenging themselves, supporting one another and making lasting memories. Thank you to all the staff and adult helpers who made it possible!

Last week, Step came in and ran a fun-filled day all about getting ready for Year 7.
The children carried out team building games, reflected on friendships, considered their memories from primary school and thought about their emotions with regards to their transition from Year 6 to Year 7.
Thank you to @stepschoolswork for organising and running the day - the staff and children all thoroughly enjoyed it.

Acer have been learning about how nutrients and water are transported around our bodies. We set up two investigations to illustrate this.
The jelly worms showed osmosis and how water enters our cells. The skittles showed diffusion and how nutrients are broken down and enter our cells before being transported around our bodies.

Last week, Year 5 put on a fantastic outdoor show titled Grovefest! Parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles, cousins were all welcome and the weather conditions managed to be pretty ideal.
The Year 5 teachers and children worked so hard to prepare a dazzling show - there was dancing, rapping, singing and acting Shakespeare. We are so proud of our performers!
(Plus we got to watch England win a game in the classroom JUST before we went on stage - wonderful timing!)

Last week, our Year 6s who are starting KWS in September, were treated to an afternoon of sport at their new school.
They completed a carousel of fun activities planned and led by the @kwschoolharpenden students.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the event and would like to thank KWS.

Here is Lilac class also enjoying their taster of secondary school Media @sirjohnlawes
They had a fun quiz first all about recognising film posters, learned all about the names of different types of camera shot including bird's eye/ close up then worked in groups to create stills using a video camera. The SJL students who worked with us were fantastic with helping the children and Lilac class had a great time!

Despite the heat, Magnolia have been working hard to prepare for their upcoming violin performance next week. They have worked so hard on plucking, bow control and reading different notes. They cannot wait to share their musical skills with their parents and carers. Thank you to Miss Windram @musicaleuk for her fantastic violin lessons, we have all enjoyed every second of it.

Redwood class were delighted to be invited by our Nursery children who had chosen some of their favourite books. Reading together was an absolute pleasure and we all had the best time. The Year 6s commented that it was lovely revisiting some of their favourite books from when they were nursery age. @thegroveinfants

Year 5 had a special treat this week with a visit to the Harpenden Recycling Centre on Dark Lane - conveniently located next door to school! It was brilliant to make our Geography topic of sustainability come to life, learning about how much of what we throw away is recycled. We also got to see the large digger in action which was quite a thrill!
