Looking back at Lock Down’s Gains & Vain:- - Initial days were full of shock, awfulness and uncertainties - Sun set down on our one of the busiest running events calendar with the onset of lock downs - Luckily for us, working with a small team (2nos.) helped, hence no recurring overheads - Robust family support system came to rescue. - Family; Nuclear became united again - If Running gave me 'me time' ... lockdown gave me 'family time' - Importance of exercising over running was emphasized during lock down - It was also time to review, renew and rework with available resources - New meanings and standards of health & hygiene, finally learnt - Nurture nature and nature will let you nurture - Charity begins at home - it was also my journey from sympathetic to empathetic - We are better placed in society than we thought - It was a journey from ‘more is less’ to ‘just enough’ is sufficient - Never stop learning - Adaptability is key to counter the challenges. - Change with time otherwise time may short change you - पहले कहते थे कि मरने की भी फुर्सत नहीं है, अब लगता है कि फुर्सत में ही ना गुजर जाये जिंदगी -'Necessity is the mother of invention is proved true, beyond doubt.

My most important lesson from running is “Unlearning & Relearning.” My tryst for my first half marathon started with a short 2Km run. After 4 months of training, I was confident to finish the distance of 21.1Km. The time target was not on my mind but was mentally ready to finish it, which I did successfully. Adapting to a new situation or condition thrown in by the new challenge you took up, is the key. The efforts you put in working consistently & persistently will gradually condition your body and mind. This means, there is no magic when results show up. You have prepared with a fool proof plan, gradually moving towards the Goal. That’s how all of us have graduated from a 10Km to Ultra Runs. For us runners, our new challenge is to run, wearing Mask and keep our-self safe zone of heart rate & away from corona. The process is simple if followed wisely, patiently and worked around gradually. - First thing, it’s important to breathe comfortably wearing a mask, even if you are simply sitting on a couch. (I was always comfortable) - Then I reached a level to walk easily wearing the mask. Leisurely walks of 30min or so, I mean. - Next, I was doing brisk walks (pace of 10mins), graduating from 15min to 30min. - When this was becoming doable or the activity was becoming boring, I added stairs but again came down to do 15min of this. And graduating to next levels. - Later, I decided to run outdoors with mask on. I started with walks, then ran very slow and walked again. - Even today, if I can run for 1hr comfortably, the mask is not on all the times. - But I am happy that at least, I am able to run with due precautions. Note- # It’s important to find deserted stretches in your running route to breathe fresh air. It’s not advisable to breathe in stale air for longer durations # If you are not able to locate Breathing Stations (the lonely stretches) then it’s better that you make your start point your aid station. # Run in shorter loops # As long as you are not comfortable in walking & running wearing mask, stay safe, stay home # Don’t fall to peer pressure, take your call. Listen to body and loved one too.

Self supported runs are the new normal, and that's how I grew as a runner since 2009. I always carried my own hydration liquid in a 250ml bottle. Never, relied on hydration offered in events. Presently using this bottle. What's inside my bottle? It has:- Water 300ml, 1 Lemon, Rock salt- 1/3 teaspoon or as per taste, Roohafza, just to add sweet taste (it can be replaced by sugar or honey or any of your favorite sweetener). And a banana. This is good for my 10-12Km Run. Note: - In summers and in humid conditions, it's extremely important to remain hydrated - Replace plastic water bottles regularly or find suitable alternative मैं हूँ ना, एक आत्मनिर्भर रनर 😁
