Happy Fourth of July! As our nation marks the 250th anniversary of the United States, we remember first that our truest citizenship is in heaven, and that our highest allegiance belongs to Jesus Christ. Many of us are also citizens of this nation, and all of us are neighbors in this community. Because God has placed us here in Tempe, Arizona, we pause today to pray in the name of Jesus for our nation, our neighbors, and our leaders. Last week we began Joseph’s story and saw that the shadow we hand down of our wounds, sins, and patterns, Jesus takes up to the cross on our behalf. Pause right now to bring any family mess to Christ, who forgives, covers, and makes new. Trust that God is up to something good in His timing.

God Meant It for Good is a series through the life of Joseph, centered on Genesis 50:20 and the promise that God is at work even in family wounds, betrayal, temptation, waiting, and hardship. Each week will trace Joseph’s story while pointing us to Jesus, the true favored Son who was rejected, betrayed, faithful, raised up, and who brings forgiveness and reconciliation. Together, we will learn to follow Jesus in our families, work, and hardships with faith that God is still working for the good. What others mean for harm, God can redeem for His purposes, His people, and His glory.
