QUESTION: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Advice please! I have a 2yrs 3mth (27moths) old son and a 16-month-old son, my 2yr old WILL NOT sleep in his own bed! 🤦🏼♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I feel like I have tried everything! From laying with him in his own bed until he is asleep and then going to bed myself, letting him fall asleep in my bed then moving him to his own, mattress on the floor of my bedroom, leaving a dull night light on, defuser, essential oils, watching iPad before bed, cuddly toys, a soft blanket, dummy, milk... I’m at my wits end!"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ANSWER: Do what you can to get your little one back in the crib! One of the biggest problems with toddler sleep is shifting out of a crib too early. They don't have the developmental capability to know that they need to stay in bed until at least between 2.5-3 years old. I always recommend doing whatever you need to do to keep them safely in bed...drop the crib, put the sleep sack on inside out so they can't get it off, etc just to ensure that they can stay in the crib!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 📸 @saliharrison⠀⠀⠀
⭐️ Cutting feeds ⭐️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As our little ones can't communicate with us using words (yet!) we're constantly problem-solving what they need/want, but it always feels like a guessing game.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A really common question we get is if babies need a feed during the night and if they are genuinely hungry or if they are waking up due to a habit.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Truthfully, determining if your baby no longer needs feeds is deemed medical advice and you need to consult with your pediatrician, however, there are some indications that we can provide to tell if your baby is genuinely hungry. Below is a guide if your baby is waking up due to genuine hunger:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✅ Your baby can fall asleep independently on their own when put down awake after they have had a feeding⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✅ Your baby sleeps for a good stretch of time after a feeding. A good guide is at least 3-4 hours or more.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✅ When your baby wakes and starts their feed, they stay awake during the feed and have a full feed showing strong cues that they have been hungry. Following the feed, they then fall asleep on their own.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✅ Your baby only requires 1 feeding during the night and it’s usually not until the morning hours. After waking and having a feed, your baby can then fall back asleep on their own.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It is completely normal and common for babies to still wake for one feed up until 8-9 months of age when our babies are more established on eating solid foods. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 📸 @aelder17
