Life isn’t always fun and it certainly doesn’t always go the way we expect. So what do you do when your dreams get dashed and you feel like life just kicked you in the knees? I read a short piece written back in the 80s that really encouraged me and changed my perspective when my life has gone awry. I wrote a blog piece about it and I know it will encourage you. The picture above is my wall of wonder - the amazing life I’m now living after life switched in my 50s. There are three types of people in this world: 1. Those who love cats and find great pleasure in watching cat videos on YouTube. 2. Those who can’t stand cats and don’t understand why anyone would waste their time watching cat videos. 3. Those who are in the middle and need to get cats so they can hunt the voles (field mice) that are DESTROYING their garden. I have fallen I to category number 3 and today I became the proud owner of sibling feral kittens who will live in my barn and hunt and annihilate those nasty rodents who are killing my plants. To celebrate this new addition to our funny farm, we had dinner at @2silosbrewingco. I can’t bring the kittens home until Friday, but I’ll post photos once they arrive.

It’s always sad when we lose a tree on our property, but when we do, it’s great to know that my husband is a hunk of a lumberjack. Look at the size of that tree he cut down! Woo hoo! How blessed am I?
And suddenly, it’s August! Who stole July and snuck August onto the calendar? But I’m ready! I’m ready for new adventures, I’m ready for new challenges and I’m getting that itch for Fall! What about you? Is your summer beginning to wind down? I’m also working hard on the next issue of the Be My Guest online magazine that comes out one month from today! Yay! Do you consider yourself to be a creative person? No? Well I got news for ya. If you don’t think of yourself as being very creative, then you’re wrong. And I say that as nicely as possible. For years I whined about not being creative and I prayed and begged God to do something to change this obvious flaw in my life. I didn’t whine out loud to anyone else because when I did, they would disagree with me, pat me on the back and say, “Oh Jody, of course you’e creative.” It was clear they weren’t seeing what I was seeing. But I was was seeing things incorrectly. It’s not that I’m not creative, it’s that I’m not creative in the same way as you. I wanted to be able to paint beautiful watercolor portraits and sing soprano and design clothes…. and I pursued these artful endeavors without a lick of success. To me, being artistically inclined and able to have something of beauty to show others meant you epitomized the word “creative”, and since I didn’t have those abilities, I decided I wasn’t a creative person. The origin of the word, create, comes from the Latin word, “creare” and the original meaning of creare was “to make grow”. I would say that that’s taking what we have and finding ways to use it and see it grow. Now that I’m willing to see my hobbies as being creative, I realize how much pleasure they bring me. Being able to snip a stem off of a plant and watch it grow into a new plant (without any help from me!) is one of the ways I find creative expression. It doesn’t sound like I’m doing very much that’s creative, but it’s a way of using what I have to create what I desire. I had a friend who cut hair and it was the way she expressed her creativity. Another friend can’t draw a straight line but she can write and cook and raise children all at the same time. She doesn’t think she’s very creative, but she’s taking what she has in her hand and watching it grow (creare). So let me ask you again, do you consider yourself to be a creative person? Yes? I totally agree with you! . . . #thebloggingtribe #instagramover50group #2to1conf
