Off-service rotations are a fact of life for interns. At UCSF, we try to make sure they are educational and give you some operative experience, like UCSF Vascular Surgery. Bonus: when plastics comes in to do a Sartorius Flap for closure, you get to stay and do a plastics case with your co-intern and chief resident! Importantly, you get to understand and participate in the whole case from start to finish.⠀ ⠀ Interns Nisha (on vascular surgery) and Mica (on plastics) operating with Chief Resident Hunter.⠀ ⠀ #UCSFplasticsurgery #USCFgeneralsurgery #USCFvascularsurgery #internlife #residentlife
Congrats to Chief Resident Alvin Wong for matching in craniofacial fellowship at UCSD and to recent grad Danny Balkin, currently a microsurgery and hand fellow at The Buncke Clinic, for matching into craniofacial at Harvard!
K-wires and C-arms abound during this busy week of hand call at ZSFG Hospital!⠀ ⠀ A week in the life of UCSF plastic surgery residents on hand call at our level one trauma center and county hospital; cases this week included a washout of bilateral septic wrists, a washout of deep space infection of the forearm, closed reduction and percutaneous pinning of a boxers fracture, proximal phalanx fracture and open reduction of a middle finger metacarpal shaft fracture, open reduction and internal fixation of middle finger and ring finger metacarpal shaft fractures, open reduction and internal fixation of an open PIPJ dislocation, open reduction and internal fixation of a lunate dislocation, and open reduction and fixation of a radoiocarpal dislocation. ⠀ ⠀ It has been a rewarding and educational week for residents Alvin Wong, Audrey Nguyen and Minnie Park along with hand surgery attendings Dr. Rahgozar and Dr. Hansen.
Congrats to our current Sub-Interns on an amazing rotation so far! We were excited to hear from our amazing visiting 4th year med students as they presented their favorite cases from the rotation. ⠀ ⠀ Alap presented on a facial feminization case he observed, with Dr. Pomerantz and chief resident Alvin Wong.⠀ ⠀ Kianna presented on a thenar flap for fingertip reconstruction that she saw for an injury at ZSFG, our level 1 trauma center and county hospital. ⠀ ⠀ Both medical students did an amazing job over the last few weeks and we look forward to all they will accomplish in their careers.
