Over the past week, we have been moving all of our current personal puppy training clients online. From today, Wednesday 25 March 2020, we will be taking on new puppies and parents in this virtual format and will be making an announcement soon about the details of online puppy school. Keep your eyes peeled for updates. Sending love and hugs to all the South African puppies and parents preparing for lockdown on Thursday night. #puppytraining #capetown #lockdown2020
Dearest Cape Town doggy parents, In the last week or so, we have had numerous phone calls from people asking for advice about the recent reports of dogs dying from Canine Parvovirus in Cape Town CBD and surrounds. Given our extensive experience with young puppies, we thought it might be helpful to share some of our knowledge involving this potentially deadly disease to assist dog parents with preventing it affecting their families too. We are puppy training specialists, who have three generations worth of experience, with a focus on in-home training for puppies during their critical learning period, i.e. up to 12-16 weeks. The vast majority of our clients are puppies under 6 months old, which statistically is the period of time when puppies are most at risk of contracting Parvo. With this in mind, we have gained a lot of knowledge and experience understanding how to keep puppies safe from this disease, whilst simultaneously developing their brain and building the vital neural pathways needed to set the foundations of their current and future behaviours. Our passion is for the animals. So, we feel that it is our moral duty to share with you any information that could potentially save a life. So, here it goes: WHAT IS CANINE PARVOVIRUS AND HOW IS IT SPREAD? Parvo is a highly contagious virus which attacks the gastrointestinal tracts of dogs. The virus itself cannot be cured, even with antibiotics. Only symptoms can be treated and the dog is given medications to boost their immune system and maximize chances of recovery. The virus is contracted through contact with infected fecal matter (dog poo). A vulnerable dog only needs to sniff a small number of molecules of infected fecal matter to become infected. There are 350,000 viral units in 1 ounce of feces, a vulnerable dog only needs to make contact with 1000 viral units to catch the virus ... When Wanana Met Louis - The Movie 😂 Dog trainers expose their puppies to the weirdest things and this is no exception! Wanana the #irishsetter could have completely freaked out when meeting Louis but instead she was a complete angel. #PUPPYTRAINING PRO TIP: Habituation to new objects and experiences is so important under 16 weeks old. Grab a handful of treats and let puppy munch them while they get to know the scary thing. SPOILER: Louis is a #robotvacuum
Flashback to the moment we realised that Leo the #goldenretriever would grow into quite the little chatterbox! #FlashbackFriday #goldenretrieversofinstagram #puppytraining #puppiesofinstagram
Stick with me and you'll be just fine! - Leo the #goldenretriever Leo is one of the latest little scruff-a-lumps to join our troop of puppy students. Not just comedian, Leo is smart and handsome too. This little guy's the whole package and he's stealing hearts left, right and centre! We know we're in love. Aren't you? 😍 #puppy #goldenretrieverpuppy #goldensofinstagram
Trevor's just started learning paw and shake. Isn't his accidental - kind of on purpose - double paw tap the most adorable thing?
I wuv you, hooman! - Bronx loves trying to charm all the available treats off his favourite doggy au pair. And it's kind of working. 😊 Thank you to all of our beautiful clients and their humans for such a wonderful 2016. We wish you all the best for 2017. Happy New Year, everybody! P.s. Please remember to keep your furbabies safely inside, away from the scary fireworks. #NewYearsEve #NewYear
Come on, hooman! Let's get back to play time. - Benji the Frenchie #Throwback to that time Benji pulled the most adorable face! We were out on an adventure, practising recall at the Sea Point Promenade, when it started absolutely bucketing down with rain. So poor Master Benji was rushed back to the warmth of the car where he was showered with cuddles and snuggles. But the moment he felt warm enough, he glanced up and gave this look, as if to say: Okay, I'm ready to get back out there now. Such an enthusiastic little munchkin! #throwbackthursday #tbt
It's the weekend! Yippee! #miniatureschnauzer - Lulu Lulu is so excited that she's going to be spending the whole weekend with her doggy au pairs. I mean, you'd be pretty excited too if you had exclusive access to kisses, cuddles and tummy tickles for an entire weekend. Ah, it's a dog's life!
Yummy, yummy, in my tummy! This hoof is just delicious. #goldendoodle - Onyx Throwback to when Onyx first discovered just how scrumptious hooves can be. Expert tip: Fill a hoof with a tasty mix of doggy-friendly fruit and veg, top off with a thin layer of salt-free / sugar-free peanut butter, then freeze. Serve to your puppy, frozen. This is one of the best ways to soothe the aching gums of a teething puppy. It's also a great way of keeping little chompers busy! Good luck! Also, happy father's day! Hope all you doggy and kitty daddies had a wonderful day.
Yes, I know I'm handsome. I woke up like this. #rhodesianridgeback - Adam I'm not the only one that thinks Adam's bat ears are absolutely adorable, right? He looks like he's about to take flight! 😂 And he's such a gentleman, too! 😊 Every time he gets a massage from his personal doggy au pair, as one does 😜, he turns around at the end and gives a gentle thank you kiss to show his appreciation. Isn't that sweet? It was such a pleasure spending the whole weekend with this beautiful young man.
Hello hooman. Want a peanut butter kiss? #englishbulldog - Harry Eating loads of peanut butter, then going around and giving every nearby human a slobbery kiss is one of Prince Harry's favourite pastimes. The whole room then smells like a peanut factory, of course. Ah, the things you get away with when you're Prince Harry! #flashbackfriday #princeharry
